All I hear is mocking sarcasm. |
| Why do people live in Fairfax County? |
I can tell you that my child’s NNAT was extremely low. His CogAT was better and his WISC was actually the highest. So yes I don’t believe it’s fair to just go off the NNAT. I want my child to get a CogAT and then if we need to we will get a WISC. Often the NNAT and CogAT don’t reflect accurately. But in our case, the CogAT was significantly higher than the NNAT. |
No, I think what she meant is that they plan to hand out cigars in person after FCPS decides who gets into AAP this year, based only on the NNAT. No COGAT, no cigar for you. Like the soup nazi, but with tobacco. |
My rising 7th grader had a 109 and is in AAP. Is that 60th percentile? Her COGAT was in-pool and her GBRS was 15. |
because its awesome |
LOL at 60th percentile being "low" |
Of course it's low. It's barely above average |
| Our principal confirmed there is no cogat this year. |
|
My child got a 107 in the NNAT and a 140 on the cogat.
My other child got a 117 on the NNAT and a 142 on the cogat. So sometimes the NNAT is not an accurate test for some kids. |
| I really don't understand why FCPS cannot make a determination of whether they will hold NNAT or CoGAT. It's just another total BS move on their part. It's not like the test makers won't make the test--they OF COURSE will. It's whether the school districts will administer the test, given current situation. But really, we're talking first and second graders and we are talking October and November timeframes. You can easily bring in the entire 1st grade population, space them out to 12' or more (whatever you want since the physical space of the entire school is at your disposal!), and get the teacher population who picked 'in person' (or didn't get their ADA approval) to come in to administer the test. It's actually NOT that difficult to plan and implement. But, like everything else in FCPS, the plan is simple--say "we're thinking about it" and then just don't communicate it, or do something completely asinine that frustrates and irritates parents. |
They did make a determination. They will hold the NNAT for kids who don’t have a score, and not hold the Cogat. |
| The equity report showed that the GBRS was much more important than any of the test scores for AAP placement. Your best bet is to make sure that your child is a strong participant in the DL synchronous sessions, and that your child goes above and beyond with the assigned homework. |
|
COGAT, NNAT and TJHSSST test are not happening this year.
Chill parents |
There will be ZERO assigned homework! Our principal said so at the open house. The teachers have all said so on the one-on-one meetings. Brabrand put that out either last week or earlier this week--no homework! When your kid shuts off the computer after distance learning, your kid will not be asked to re-open it again for that day. In our school, there is very limited "asynchronous" time. The asynchronous blocks are being taken up by "small group" meetings with the AARTs or where the teacher will pop into the multiple group sessions happening and see how kids are progressing on an in-class assignment. Anyway, I guess the GBRS will be used primarily, though the equity report pointed out that it is the one assessment item that should be dropped altogether because of the inherent subjectivity bias. |
