His movement wasn’t exactly built from scratch. He came from an affluent background. He was mentored by Bill Montgomery (a Tea Party activist who cofounded TPUSA), and given seed money by a wealthy GOP megadonor.

As for his legacy, some will whitewash him, some will remember him for being divisive and inflammatory, and some won’t remember him at all. How many people nowadays have heard of Horst Wessel?
