A thread for people working on 50+ lb weight loss

Anonymous
Can we do a supportive check in type of thread? I’m down 15 pounds since mid-March but probably have 70+ to go. Hard to stay motivated. My main focus is lots of exercise. Also doing a very half assed attempt at IF. Basically 15-9, but only on Monday through Friday and with one Diet Coke in the morning. Anyone want to join me on this thread?

Okay. I have wanted this too.

I’ve yo-yo’d my whole life (not different diet plans just sticking with managing my calories and then failing, over and over).

I weighed in at 215 a couple weeks ago which was a real come to Jesus.

I’m working on fewer carbonated beverages, logging all my calories in MFP, and eating more vegetables.

I bought a bag of grapefruits but they were too much work to peel and didn’t eat them

I'm not on the same boat currently, I was 2 years ago, but I just want to say YOU CAN DO IT, and goodluck! Keep pushing yourself even on lazy days, I used to just push myself to do some light exercises when I feel lazy to keep the momentum. Congrats on the 15lb weight loss.

OP here. Thanks. How much did you lose? So hard not to get discouraged.

OP here. I was around 215 about 18 months ago. That should have been a wake up call for me. Instead I stopped weighing myself for a long time. Topped out near 230 a few months ago when o finally weighed myself again. .

Not OP, but I've lost and maintained a 60lb weightloss for 7 years now, after having been fat/obese since elementary school. You all can do it. I know it's hard, but please remember to congratulate yourself on the small victories.

My advice would be: small, slow, sustainable changes that are approachable and where you won't get burnt out. No diets. Lots of whole fruit and vegetables. Limit eating out to 1 meal a week. And exercise at least every other day.

Good luck all, and congrats on making positive changes. Remember that nobody is perfect, either before, during, or even after weightloss!

60lbs. There will be constant temptation to stop doing it, just keep pushing yourself, even the tiniest effort in those tricky days will help you stick to it.

We can do it! I started at 195 a month ago (I’m 5’5”) and want to get down to 140 or thereabouts. I started in earnest on May 27 and have lost 9.9 lbs as of this morning. I am doing IF and getting in (or trying to) 10,000 steps a day. I mostly eat between noon and 6pm, but I’ll extend my eating window to 8 hours if it feels right on a particular day. I haven’t felt really deprived at all (pre-kids when I was thin, I never ate breakfast!) and the immediate results are really motivating me. The mental health benefits of taking a solo walk with a podcast every day are also huge. I just feel physically better this month than I have in a long time. My resting heart rate has gone down 15 points since I started per my FitBit data.

Amazing! How long have you been at it?

I’ll join. I’ll go by ST. I have been in the 260-279 range for years. I recently have lost 10 pounds and am down to 259. Planning on keeping it going though honestly part of it is just that I’ve been under a lot of stress lately so I’ve had no appetite. I am also working out more than ever though - a mix of running, biking and weight routines at home. I’d like to have another child but not before losing another 40 pounds.

OP here and I thought I could never do IF until I realized I too did not eat breakfast pre-kids. Not as IF, just ... didn’t feel like it. So I’m trying but my fast is only 15 hours and only during the work week. My rate of loss is much slower but I’m coming to terms with that. And feeling good.

Heh. not amazing. really embarassing. In the fall my doc fussed at me for my weight. I lost about 12 pounds and then COVID hit.

Since COVID I've lost another 13 pounds.

I've lost 2 clothing sizes, have reduced my resting heart rate from low 90s to low 70s, and have much more endurance. I hope to reach my goal by Christmas.

Hey, who cares how/why you started. Use that momentum!! Mine started with worrying we’d run out of food and walking out of boredom. And grew from there.

And hey I’ve read about plenty of people on here who have gained weight during stay at home so if you ask me any weight loss is pretty impressive right now!!
