A thread for people working on 50+ lb weight loss

My advice would be: small, slow, sustainable changes that are approachable and where you won't get burnt out. No diets. Lots of whole fruit and vegetables. Limit eating out to 1 meal a week. And exercise at least every other day.

Good luck all, and congrats on making positive changes. Remember that nobody is perfect, either before, during, or even after weightloss![/quote

I agree with this approach ( np) I've lost 40 pounds so far. I would add that you should write down what you eat ( you can use Myfitnesspal and be accurate. Get at least 150 minutes of exercises per week. Do a t least three different types of exercises for strength, flexibility and aerobic. don't eat back those "lost" calories. You need to eat 500 calories a day to lose one pound in a week. Follow this philosophy: Eat REAL food, mostly veggies, not too much.

You can do it!

I'm game to join. I'm pushing 200lbs but when I felt my healthiest as adult I was about 140. My added challenge is that I have a teen who is about a year into recovery for an ED (orthorexia, which is a special kind of hell of anorexia focused on clean healthy eating taken to a life-threatening extreme), so I need to be so careful not to talk about losing weight or doing anything that signals that my weight is something to be concerned about or obsessed over. At this point I don't care about how I look, I genuinely have no desire to "look thin" (having a kid with an ED will knock that right out of you) but I need to do something because I feel crummy and tired all the time.

I'm thinking about contacting my child's dietician for advice on how to manage this whole thing but in the meantime it's good to see how other people are tackling things in small steps.

TITF checking in again! I'm now at 237 and the lowest I remember being in the last 7 years is 238, so this is exciting! I'm one pound away from losing 20 lbs. Hope everyone is hanging in there and working hard!

Weigh in this morning was 218.8.
Targeting 160 lbs by the end of the year.
Long long way to go.

Checking in after a little bit. Weigh in yesterday was 205.8, down 21.4 lbs in 50 days.

I started getting serious about cleaning up my lifestyle on 6/22. I marked it in my calendar to hold myself accountable. As of today I am down about 13 lbs. I did with very little exercise (I will incorporate it eventually) and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables for every meal. I allow myself a take out meal (not fast food though) every 2 weeks or so. It can be whatever I want. For examples one night I ordered ribs, another night wings, and recently pizza.

I used a yeast buster formula to eliminate candida and reduce sugar cravings then stopped drinking most sweetened drinks (including sugar subs.) Water, sparkling water, tea, and coffee are the what I mostly drink. I eliminated as many refined carbs as possible from my daily diet. I also avoid most dairy but do use real butter and eggs. I also do indulge in meat but not for every meal and some days not at all. My diet is more plant based. I am trying not to say I can't eat something unless it creates an allergic reaction. So I won't label myself as vegetarian, vegan, or pescaterian. It is a lifestyle change and I like it! I also try to eat whatever is season so my taste buds don't get bored and I look for creative ways to cook veggies. Sometimes it is using a different spice, a different rice, coucous instead of rice, etc. I like to watch Tabitha Brown because she gives me ideas for how I can play around with my food and make it into something new.

I did stop drinking for a while but I slowly reintroduced it by incorporated low carb alcohol only mixing it with sparkling water. If I crave a sweet wine or something with a lot of sugar will cut it with sparkling water and ice.

It seems to be working for me.

Great job! I am a teeny bit further along in my journey, but with similar beginning stats and the same fairly rapid weight loss. I was thrilled to get below 200, but spent a LONG time in the 190s and it was very disappointing after seeing the scale regularly go down. Don’t get discouraged if your weight loss slows a bit, despite your best efforts. You will still continue to lose. When the scale fluctuated up or I would plateau, I just keep telling myself, “ Eating well and exercising is not going to make you gain weight, be patient.”

Hi! I’d love to join, I started in June at 5’2 165 and now I’m at 155 so I’m down 10 lbs. I’d like to get down to 110

I’m running 5X a week.
And eating 1400 calories
Taking about 10,000 steps (especially if I’m not running)

I I’m on track to loose 2Lbs every week so get this down to a science especially snack wise. I have a lot of cheese based snacks
I just added the 4oz ice creams but didn’t know they were 250 calls! Welp it’ll be a sweet treat every once in a while.
How about you?

My mid term goal is 125 btw!

I’ll join! I used to be a size 4-6 but over the past 2 years or so, I’ve put on 60 pounds because of a medical condition which greatly reduces my ability to exercise. I have a closet full of clothes I can’t wear I lost about 15 pounds prior to the pandemic but have since gained back about 7. I really want to lose the weight, it’s made me a hermit, I don’t want to see people or my family because of it.

I’m doing IF and low carb.
