Christopher Columbus statues

I personally can understand why people would want to take down statues of Confederate generals: they were treasonous traitors who wanted to defeat the United States and they LOST. See ya!

But I am having a hard time understanding why Columbus has become the embodiment of white Europeans ravaging indigenous people. It’s not like he sailed to the new world and recruited others to specifically do that. It’s a little like making Henry Ford the poster boy for carbon emissions and automobile pollution.

If the reasoning behind renaming schools and moving statues is sound, if people really believe in it, then it needs to apply across the board.

Mount Rushmore will probably go last, but it has to go too.

We need a standard for memorialization. It can’t be perfection (unless it’s a statue of Jesus/Allah/etc.)—maybe the standard is being on the right side of history?

The standard is tough talking liberals that have never sacrificed anything anywhere, but are good at pulling down statues and not realizing that sometimes history is best remembered. That is the standard. Get with the program. Most of these people are white, and are acting out to pretend they actually care, but when it matters, like helping people, they have done nothing.

Christopher Columbus isn’t a hero to ALL Americans. If we have public statues, they community must agree that person is worth it. Columbus has been unpopular for years.

Funny how liberals and Democrats ignore a Democrat like FDR was one of the most racist Presidents of all time. FDR refused to host gold medal Olympian Jessie Owens. FDR also cut out black people from many of the New Deal benefits. FDR put Japanese Americans in concentration camps. Under FDR's New Dealinitiatives coding Black neighborhoods as unsuitable for the new mortgages was an accepted practice. Quit with the double standards liberals. You're defacing Winston Churchill in the UK because he was a flawed character, do the same for FDR.

I’m wondering, OP, if you actually know what kind of brutality Columbus and his crew used against the people who were here in the land they “discovered.”

Winston Churchill defeated the Nazis, but protesters involved are tearing him down. FDR should be in the same boat.
