You're mad at FDR because he beat the Nazis?

Funny how liberals and Democrats ignore a Democrat like FDR was one of the most racist Presidents of all time. FDR refused to host gold medal Olympian Jessie Owens. FDR also cut out black people from many of the New Deal benefits. FDR put Japanese Americans in concentration camps. Under FDR's New Dealinitiatives coding Black neighborhoods as unsuitable for the new mortgages was an accepted practice. Quit with the double standards liberals. You're defacing Winston Churchill in the UK because he was a flawed character, do the same for FDR.

You seem a little wound up about this subject.

Is it that he was so successful despite being a flawed person when your loser president is just flawed?

This is the point, actually.

Every statue that has been toppled, every street that has been renamed, every school that has been renamed, every individual who has been slandered by those wanting to rewrite history has been a flawed individual. And, so is FDR, MLK, Obama, and every other individual that the left lionizes.
But, that doesn't mean that they haven't done good things.

These short sighted, free speech hating protesters choose to focus on negative things and forget about any positive they brought into the world.

I predict, at this rate, it will only be 2 generations or so before all MLK Blvds, all MLK statues, and all MLK buildings will be torn down or renamed because he was such a flawed individual. They will find something in his past to cause outrage. Just give it time.

Well, I guess that when they rename Fort Benning, they will also have to move it--after all, it is in Columbus, Georgia.

Winston Churchill defeated the Nazis, but protesters involved are tearing him down. FDR should be in the same boat.

Was Churchill responsible for anything that might have happened in India around 1943 or so?

Churchill was a flaming racist like FDR, and he had significant impact on India:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_views_of_Winston_Churchill

Indeed, it is believed that Churchill was responsible for worsening a terrible famine in India in 1943, because he wanted food to be stockpiled for Europeans over people in India.

That's the problem when you go back and try to judge complex historical characters with modern purity tests. Great leaders who defeated the Nazis, like Churchill and FDR, wouldn't pass because of their previous racist policies. When history looks back Obama, what will happen when people decide that he was a monster for massively expanding the US' drone war that led to the butchering of hundreds of civilians (including children)? If we are going down this slippery slope of morality purity tests for historical figures, even MLK would fail the #metoo test.

I get that all people are flawed, and no historical figure is perfect, but can someone point out the good points of the confederate generals?

A poem I learned in third grade:

Christopher Columbus where would I be
If you had never crossed the sea?
If you had never thought the world a ball
If yo had never cared to sail at all?

I would not be standing here
And, we would not have your day each year.

It does beg the question........

But I am having a hard time understanding why Columbus has become the embodiment of white Europeans ravaging indigenous people. It’s not like he sailed to the new world and recruited others to specifically do that. It’s a little like making Henry Ford the poster boy for carbon emissions and automobile pollution.

Fake news. No one is attacking all statues and history.

Why does Christopher Columbus deserve a statue? What did he do that embodies U.S. values?

Your math is terrible (and your history seems tinged by right wing “scholarship.” https://web.stanford.edu/class/e297c/poverty_prejudice/soc_sec/hgreat.htm)

FDR wasn’t atypically racist for the time. He wasn’t cruel for cruelty’s sake. There’s no defense for putting Japanese Americans in internment camps. But he got us through the Depression and most of the way through WWII, all while doing great things for America and being a smart, learned man.

Christopher Columbus, in the other hand, what do you have? He got lost trying to find a shortcut to the east and ended up in the Bahamas, where he kicked off a several hundred years’ campaign of cruelty against the people who were already here (thereby negating his “discovery”) so terriblethat he was imprisoned for it. Brutal rapes. Killing basically for sport. Can you not see why he shouldn’t be honored? He didn’t do anything worth honoring! If you want to be euro-centric about it and pretend that the America’s weren’t already populated, give credit where it’s due and honor Leif Erickson.

I will celebrate exploring a new frontier and discovering new places. That was a big endeavor back then and an amazing risk that the finders, sailors, countries took for economic trade route exploration.

What were other societies doing that that point in time?

Frankly I don’t think any protestor could even survive on a tall ship for more than a week before they’d perish from lack of survival skills or work ethic. Much easier to just sit around and shout.

Funding companies- many of whom lost a lot of capital and assets funding exploring.

Let’s stick them on the Oregon Trail too, with a covered wagon and five objects from the 1800s of their choosing.

I’ll give them 5 days.

I'm confused. Was America a "new place"? Many people lived there when Columbus arrived.

If you are arguing that he should be glorified for the economic benefit of his work, that might be a valid point. But Columbus is hardly unique in his economic influence.

I’m just curious if they can even do a math proof or read the Republic or Socrates.

Human nature hasn’t changed much. And books like the Old Testament The Republic, Confuscious, and documents like the Declaration if Independence prove how many have tried to overcome the dark sides of human nature. It’s fascinating how much thought was out into things. They represent the History of Mankind.
