Crescent Trail Mask Headcount

Anonymous
In a headcount of people using the Crescent Trail and Little Falls Parkway this morning. 32 out of 165 were observed wearing masks or a little less than 20%.
This is down from a headcount over the last 2 weeks of just over 25%. Weekday use of masks is less than 20%.
Today, there was one group of family bikers of 10 all wearing masks. Otherwise, the % would have been much lower today,

I wouldn't take the masking behavior on a trail as representative of masking behavior in general. I don't wear a mask while recreationally biking on a trail. I do wear one when I go into any building. And, while I haven't been on a crowded sidewalk since the pandemic started, I would wear one there too.

+1.

Anyone who rides or walks the Capitol Crescent trail on a Sunday morning during a pandemic is clearly not concerned about social distancing.

Ditto.

Those numbers seem very low to me.
I have been hiking and jogging in RCP daily for the entirety of the pandemic and mask-wearing is still near 100% on the Klingle Valley Trail, Melvin Hazen, and RCP in these areas.
Bonus point, if you run or walk at dusk, the masks are great for blocking the annoying little bugs that swarm near the greenery on RCP.

Who wears a mask outside? Why?

WEAR YOUR MASK WITHIN 6 FEET OF PEOPLE.

This means you should always take your mask with you when you leave the house.

You should wear them if the area is so crowded that people get within 6 feet of you repeatedly. But don't constantly whip your mask on and off, because that's also a contamination risk. You need to look around and use good judgement.

And what are you going to do about it when I don’t?

You don't need to wear a mask exercising nor should you. The thin cloth masks do nothing but make people like you happy. We don't wear masks when we go for a walk. We are rarely leaving the house and only shopping once a week and carry out 1-2 times a week. We are as careful as anyone but you are absurd.

I will be wearing my mask.

This is why as many people as possible should take their mask, so that they don't need to depend on others doing the right thing. It's a system where everyone is everybody's else back-up.

This is what love of humanity means. Protecting little jerks like you.

The Department of Health and Human services data people. Also not a bad math lesson for homeschoolers (I'm guessing OP is the mom of the family of 10 wearing masks and this was an assignment for the kids).
