Crescent Trail Mask Headcount

18 masks on
126 no masks
12.5% usage

Way down from prior weekends' usage. Essentially, an older couple walking together or a stray biker. That's it and that's different from weekends prior.

You probably narc’d on the kids who back in HS skipped class on Friday afternoons, didn’t you? You do you...

I think OP is on the spectrum.

Not judging, just pointing out.

27 masks on
154 masks off
15% of the people wore a mask.

Down from prior week's usage

So mask usage is going down outside.

And Covid numbers are dropping considerably locally.

Sounds like no mask outside = good for everyone.

Sounds like a reasonable conclusion from the data posted.

Who are you people who feel the need to be mask police when people are OUTSIDE?

I wear the mask in stores, though I’m pretty sure it doesn’t do much. Unless we’re all walking around with N95 masks, those cloth ones seem pretty useless.

But never outside.

People are getting the message that masks aren't needed outside. Just keep your spacing.

Thought I'd circle back since numbers dropped so severely in the last month.

Mask wearing went up significantly on the trail after July 4th and went well above 70% on the trail during the fall and even higher as it colder.

Today, in beautiful weather, mask usage on the CT was below 70% (64%) for the first time in 4 months.

Amazing it’s so high really with cases so low and being outdoors.

Are you doing the mask count? How often are you doing this?

Ditch it now. Normalize unmasking outside, people - there is zero need. Especially for a fleeting pass.

The fact that anyone thinks covid numbers are even slightly, marginally, itsy-bitsy teeny tiny mildy connected to outside passes... is seriously mind boggling.

But it's not just a fleeting pass. That only applies to people going the other direction. You may be behind someone for a while on the same side, or vice versa.

You are outside. There is ventilation literally EVERYWHERE. If you're going through a tunnel, ok put your mask on. Walking a few feet behind someone? OMG people, it's completely fine. I have never worn a mask outside on walks and runs, and have probably had 10,000+ of the kinds of incidents you describe. Still no covid. Still no antibodies. It's completely fine.

The ventilation. It. Is. ALL AROUND EVERYONE.

+1. I think any reduction in outdoors mask wearing is a good thing. It means people are starting to normalize their perception of risk. This way when the mask mandates lift, the “zero risk is the only acceptable risk” people won’t go batshit crazy.

PLus it's cumulative- all these itsy-bitsy passes add up to a lot of small exposures, and theoretically higher viral load depending how many positive people you pass.

This is down from a headcount over the last 2 weeks of just over 25%. Weekday use of masks is less than 20%.
Today, there was one group of family bikers of 10 all wearing masks. Otherwise, the % would have been much lower today,

Outdoor activity is not where you need to be wearing masks. You are moving and should not be stopping or clumping up on a trail. If I were to be indoors - mask. Stop to talk to someone directly in a conversation that is beyond a few sentences - mask (for fear it would hit 15 minutes). Also, at least 13% or higher of those trail people are probably vaccinated now.
