Yes, let's call this "DA in name only," or DAINO.

Not sure why this keeps coming up. It’s really not true. 08s will have a new coach. The new coach will keep the strongest players from Red and take any outsiders who can compete at a “DA level”.
Coaches see this as an opportunity to clean up the team. And a new coach has no connections to anyone from that old team.
The spring will be difficult for the 08s. Change is hard, and not everyone deals with it well.

Why is spring going to be difficult for Arlington 08's? I'm not sure why there are so many people down on this team. They may not be dominating the soccer age group like they were at U9 and U10 but they are still competitive. They have beat McLean and taken Loudoun to penalty kicks. I for one am excited to see how they do once they transition to DA. I think Arlington Da has some excellent coaches that can really get this team up and going. There is definite talent on this team but they need the right coach. FCV 2008 team is nothing right now. I don't see why Arlington won't be able to be middle-top of the DA group next year. If you have a very talented 08 I think you should take a look. Long-term I think this team really has potential

I rather be middle to low end table at Ecnl than to be number one in DA. Competition is not the same it's like comparing CCL to Ncsl. FCV will probably have a bad team next year but so what they are number one in every age group and still can't perform well in showcases, what does that tell u about this area? So yeah please aim for being a "top" team in DA you're better off staying in CCL and saving your money

I meant 08s in general. It’s a transition year. Players move, teams break up, and there are lots of rumors and secrets.
It’s horrible, but everything usually works out.

I think what people see with the Arlington red is a team that is built for u12 and under. After u13/14, it becomes a passing and skill game in midfield, speed of play increases, defenses get a lot better, goalies get better, etc. You can see this transition happening with some of the better teams in the top brackets at tournaments like WAGS and Jeff Cup. This is where red wants to be. Those teams are fast, physical but also skilled with a high soccer iq.

I do not think the red team has taken a step back. Its more other teams(really players) have taken a few steps forward and over taken them. I first noticed this last year in the spring. I think they have rested on their laurels. I watched the DA ID session this weekend. I walked away wondering how many of the red players would make the DA squad if they were coming from outside the club.

It’s unfortunate but in many ways last year was the real tryout. If you are on the “top team” now at a DA club(u12), you are pretty much guaranteed a spot on the u13 DA squad. The ID sessions are to look for extremely talented girls. Basically they are looking for girls who really stand out when on the field with the club’s 08’s top team and 07’s DA players.

It’s way too early. Remember these girls have not even played on a full size field. The girls are told they can only do DA soccer-ie no other extracurriculars or sports. The travel is a lot and it 4 days a week. It’s also a very stressful time for everyone- current team and new players. If a player does not make the team there is little chance getting on the team down the road. This should be done at u15 or later.

agree, unless your daughter is really good.. exceptional.
If not, your daughter already missed the first session to show her ability from Metro United, FCV, Arlington first tryouts.

Whoa. The info in the above post isn’t true for all clubs. From my experience, being on the “top” U12 team does not guarantee your player a spot on the U13 DA team. During the ID session, coaches will be looking for exceptional players, but also looking to fill in the weaker spots on the team.

The DA team requires commitment but you can play other sports (rec or travel level). Many players play lacrosse, basketball, swimming, and flag football. Balancing the time is hard but not impossible, especially at U13. This balance is trickier once they hit high school.

I think this began with a parent trying to discourage other kids from trying to take a daughters spot at the low or middle end of a team roster. Fear of downward mobility runs rampant in NOVA, especially in soccer.

Well this was at Arlington. They did say this is a different league, no other extracurricular - like cello lesson. Maybe some other parents who were there could post what they heard. There were not a lot of outside the club girls there. So it will be really hard to make big changes.

doesn't look like there is much talent in the 08. Yes some girls are good but at Jeff cup you only have Strikers in the top bracket who is not even a NOVA team any thoughts on this? its so diluted it makes me sad when I hear parents brag about the DA badge but the team is always losing and not able to develope any players. How can any DA or ECNL team say they develop if all they try to do is recruit?
