It looks like Westchester to me. That's pretty close to Manhattan. Parts of Jersey are super nice too - like where Dorethea and Jon Bon Jovi live.

When my grandmother died I couldn't talk about it for a few years. If I had, I'd have started crying and wasn't sure I'd ever be able to stop. And it'd have been the Ugly Cry, for SURE. Jack gives Kate a lot of unconditional love. They seem very close in her younger years.

It appears to be bucolic suburbia but Kevin and Randall just dash to and from Manhattan, by car, sometimes more than once a day. Where is this mythical location? (Also, does it bother anyone else that was is supposed to be Pittsburgh and NJ/NY/Conn are obviously California?)

Also, seriously Randall doesn't call anyone else - only Kevin? Kevin can't call one of his family members to take care of Randall? Poor playwright/actor woman. But I agree with PPs, nevertheless, Kevin is somehow the best/most likeable character.

I'm still watching this show for the twists/flashbacks but losing some patience . . .

I agree. East Coast never looked so good before.

Kevin could have gone to help Randal after the play and should have sent someone else in the meanwhile. He did let down a lot of people by disappearing on them.

I know. I could feel it coming and was really hoping that he was not going to walk out on his own play. I madam he had 5 relatives in the audience. He could have asked any of them to help. And where on earth are Randell's kids? He would had to leave work to go get them.

Also, the Greatness of Jack is starting to get a little much.

I think the point is to make it that much harder on the audience when he does eventually die. Which we know will happen. And I spent all last night hoping it wasn't this episode since they showed Kate as an obvious teenager when they were going out to dinner with Sheely and Miguel.

Just saw an interview with the show creator saying that the "greatness" is, in part, a veneer that hides some of his character flaws. As in, he is trying perhaps too hard not to be his alcoholic dad, but that the greatness comes with flaws that only Rebecca gets to see (like jealousy, neediness). It made a lot of sense.

Count me in for liking the latest episode, 'jack pearson's son.'

The twist was Kevin saying: "I'm thinking about what my dad would do." You think that means he's going to walk on confidently, etc. but it means saving your family. BUT totally agree he should have just called someone else to handle it. Maybe it was a combo of fear though. Fear + a heroic opportunity elsewhere. I thought Miguel, usually a little goofy, stood out for once.

Though I'm usually not a Toby fan, I have to say it's time their characters dug deep. It was a good episode for them. And come on guys, this wasn't going to be the episode to reveal the death. I actually find it completely believable. That's what Kate hides. She doesn't share it with anyone.

What do we all think about Rebecca not telling jack about the two month long-ago relationship?

I get it when jack made that the final straw. He tries so hard to support her, and she doesn't realize she has come to expect "great jack." Well, his "greatness" as discussed above has a limit. That's a theme for him. Great guy, but he's not the messiah. Man, she probably felt bad when he said, "I didn't think I was in your way." He's often rescuing them out of trouble and she senses that is the easy default. Honestly I will say, I do this to my "great" husband. I forget to remind myself that there are a lot of jerks I could have married...and it doesn't mean he is immune to all stress/feeling bad/getting tired/work crap.

Kevin couldn't call his family in the audience - he had to be the one to leave because he has to make it up to Randall - for not being there for him in the past. Kevin says to Sophie that he has changed and this just shows how true that is.

This. Bang on the money.

He could have made it up to Randall after the play. I feel bad for the actress - he slept with her, lead her on, and then dropped her pretty callously. She stayed in the play that he funded despite being mistreated, but he did let her down again.

I didn't like this episode either. I was disappointed that Kevin walked out of the play and also think they are dragging out Jack's death way too long. Ever since they got a contract to do two more seasons it has gotten way too slow. Next week looks pretty bad - I hope the whole episode isn't Randall and his father. It's too much, he didn't even know the man until, what, a couple months ago.

+1 He also had the most to lose by leaving. He wasn't only the "star" of the show, he financed the show after the other financial backers left when the English chick quit. I liked seeing him prioritize Randall, not for Sophie, but to see him finally being a good brother.

No kevin couldn't do that. He had to put Randall first - before himself and before anyone. It's unfortunate for the girl I know - but she will survive and Randall needs him.

Can we all just think for a minute about how much a nice house in the very close in suburbs of New York or New Jersey would cost? Yowza. When's the episode where becca wins the lottery? Although I guess her bitchy mom was rich, right? Maybe she bought apple stock early and sold it high or something.

I don't think you get the show if you think his demise and death isn't a big deal for Randall even if they just met. He has been longing for William all his life and now when he finds him, it's the end. Randall is a control freak and now everything is out of control for him.

She wrote the play, so she wasn't going to quit. However, I do agree the way she was treated, repeatedly, was brutal.

Yes and no. It's her play and she's obviously invested, but she was about to quit when the lead actress disappeared.
