I love this show but didn't love last night's episode. Especially hated the whole, "What happened to your father"/"Oh I want to tell you but just can't" bit. Seemed totally designed just to screw with the audience.
Also didn't like the ending, where the actress walks on stage and the brother dashes off. Heartwarming for sure, but totally fake. |
Last night's episode was a good one. i loved how Kevin went to be there for Randall. I have really enjoyed seeing how his character is developing into a better person.
I still can't stand the whole Kate and Toby thing. He is so damn annoying. i do wonder where they are going with Jack and having him start to drink again... Does he become an alcoholic, thus having a major downfall. Guess that would leave the kids conflicted on his death as he was once such a good man. |
I agree, they are dragging out the story of his death way to much. I would also think that if Kevin had to run off he would have told someone there was a family emergency. Leaving the actress on the stage was a d*ck move that somewhat negates the good thing he did. |
Yeah, I think jacks off the wagon. Becca goes on tour and he spirals. My guess is he goes to pick up Kate someplace, they get into a fight becasuse he's drunk, and he crashes the car either with or without her in it. Especially if she was in the car, I can imagine her just not being able to talk about it--like a ptsd thing.
I thought the play thing was dumb. I like the idea of being there for your family but both Randall and Kevin have now just made themself unemployable. Seeing as how they were the only ones on this show that seemed like they had any chance of earning an income, seems counter productive for all involved. I hope Miguel's got some money put away! But didn't he and the first wife have kids? What happened to them? And how did they end up in westchester or wherever suburb Kevin could easily get to mere hours before his play was set to premiere? |
I agree that this felt manipulative by the writers of the show. Just tell us how he died already. |
Both Toby and Kate's stories were annoying last night. Her with not being able to talk and Toby saying "when you are ready" and then postponing the wedding because she couldn't talk about it. Which is it? |
I actually liked last night's episode, despite the far-fetched parts of the plot. I feel so bad for Randall. I like Kevin's character more and more even though the writers have him doing things that are unrealistic. I am warming up to Miguel, too, after his talk with Kevin.
My prediction for Jack's death is that he starts drinking again and dies in a car crash, possibly hurting or killing someone else in the process. I also think it will happen while Rebecca is on tour so the teenage kids have to deal with the immediate aftermath until she can get home. |
NP. I agree with all of this about Jack's death. Although I did think that Chrissy Metz's acting in that scene was great. |
Where on earth are Randall and Mom/Miguel supposed to be living? It appears to be bucolic suburbia but Kevin and Randall just dash to and from Manhattan, by car, sometimes more than once a day. Where is this mythical location? (Also, does it bother anyone else that was is supposed to be Pittsburgh and NJ/NY/Conn are obviously California?)
Also, seriously Randall doesn't call anyone else - only Kevin? Kevin can't call one of his family members to take care of Randall? Poor playwright/actor woman. But I agree with PPs, nevertheless, Kevin is somehow the best/most likeable character. I'm still watching this show for the twists/flashbacks but losing some patience . . . |
I agree. East Coast never looked so good before. Kevin could have gone to help Randal after the play and should have sent someone else in the meanwhile. He did let down a lot of people by disappearing on them. |
Since we are picking apart the show, what kind of office security does Randall's work have where anyone can go running up in there |
This. I hated the Kevin ending. His poor co-actor and crew and everybody else involved in that play. You just don't do that. His entire family was in the audience he could have delayed the start of the play 5 minute to call one of them to go help Randall and that still would show him putting family first, like saying 'hey mom, you need to go take care of Randall instead of watching my play, it's ok to not be here for me right now". |
I have a double theory after watching last night.
After Jack goes to the restaurant alone on Valentine's night, he is seen starting to drink again and has ordered a big burger. I had mental images of him choking to death there, alone and then Kate spending the rest of her life stuffing her face with food, hoping she too would choke to death and be reunited with him in the afterlife. Far fetched, I know, but not completely out of tune with much of what they've shown us. |
I think Jack looks like he's losing weight. I wondered if they were setting up a future health issue. However, based on Randall's reactions to William's cancer it doesn't seem like he's been through that situation before. |
Did you see the episode about the 3 separate birthday parties? That's where they introduce the back story with Sophie. It was Episode #13 "Three Sentences" if you can't find it on demand, it is on the NBC app. Episode 13 "Three Sentences" Aired January 24, 2017 The triplets' tenth birthday is approaching, and instead of keeping of the family tradition of celebrating the day, Kevin and Kate encourage their parents to throw them separate parties, in which each of the triplets has to invite their entire class. In the current day, Randall is trying to bid for a project in Calgary, but is interrupted by William, who recently stopped chemo treatments and is now energetic. Kate's doctor encourages her to attend a camp instead of having weight loss surgery. Kevin takes Toby out to a bar after Toby dropped Kate off at the camp and Sloane tells Kevin she wants no part of him. At the birthday party, Randall only has a handful of classmates show up while Kevin and Kate have full parties. When Kate's best friend Sophie arrives, she and Kate's entire party merge into Kevin's party, leaving Kate alone, in which Jack comes to comfort her.. Toby encourages Kevin to go to the woman that he really loves and give her three sentences as a chance to get back with him. He then visits Sophie, his childhood love and ex-wife. She sends him a text answering the three sentences, indicating she wants to get back with him. A mysterious worker at the camp tries to talk to Kate, who is now engaged to Toby, and acts like he is trying to seduce her. |
