Half the people want the world to open back up, open camps, open pools, open schools in the fall. Other half wants to not do play dates, not open school, not open anything.
Which camp are you in? I want parks to be open. I want our pool and tennis courts to open. I want to do play dates. I threw out having a friend over for s’mores and she asked if the neighbors would call the cops. |
Open - at least some things. Yes, I’m scared of the virus but we can’t hide forever.
I’ve been impacted financially so that seems to have changed my view. |
Middle ground. Open things gradually, in stages, with lots of restrictions.
I won't do playdates or camp this summer - too soon. But we may go to our neighborhood pool (have a membership) IF there are guidelines in place to make sure it won't be packed. |
Open. I’m not stupid or incapable and can take personal responsibility for my health. |
Same |
I don’t think it’s as black and white as you say. Most people fall somewhere on a spectrum.
For me, I will feel very comfortable with outdoor activities this summer such as pools and parks, but I will probably not feel comfortable in closed environments like indoor restaurants, and definitely not Uber, taxis or public transit. |
It’s not only about you. It’s a public health issue, not a personal one. |
The OPs question was about personal preference, not policy. |
I take personal responsibility about my OWN health, but I can't exactly send my preschooler to camp as planned and trust him to practice proper hygiene or social distancing. I don't exist in a vacuum - I have another small child, plus aging parents and in laws who count on me for help. I'm not going to rush out into the world and expose them all, and if that makes me stupid and incapable, oh well. |
Open is fine if people will wear masks to keep others safe. 3 out of 5 in our house are high risk. I am very wary of us being out and about before there’s a good treatment or vaccine in place. |
Our only path forward is one of moderation, and investment in contactless business, continued distance learning for those who wish it, and compulsory masks. Remdesivir and vaccine research is forging ahead. There is an end to this! Please stop inciting conflict, OP, with false choices. |
Open!!! Approximately 500 dead in VA and 500,000 unemployed. Just think about that. |
We can help with unemployed. We can’t help with dead. I can’t take much more of this though. Give me the pool this summer before we go back to lock down in the fall. I will change on the pool deck if necessary and leave to use my personal bathroom. Just open the pool. |
I think that makes a big difference in how you feel about this. My chosen career is toast. |
Still employed and haven’t (yet) been impacted financially and still say OPEN! If people are high risk or risk averse they can choose to shelter in place. If not, you can re-emerge. I personally wouldn’t fly now or eat at a restaurant, but I don’t think that airplanes shouldn’t fly and restaurants should be shuttered. Free choice. |
