| Mine is down to two colleges. One is in-state (UMD) and 30 minutes away, the other is in Boston (Northeastern with merit but still more expensive). We couldn’t visit Northeastern and it’s such a tough decision given the possibility of continued or recurring on-line learning. |

Yes, last fall because he's playing a sport. At this point, who knows if he'll even go to college in the fall because he would not survive online his first semester at college. He will not understand how different the workload is, has ADHD on top of it - just won't work. Not sure he'll even want to try it if things are still going as projected.
DD is currently at her college apartment and is miserable and depressed and struggling sitting in front of a computer for 9 hours a day watching videos and taking notes for her STEM classes. Missing 3 labs a week as well - it's not feasible or worth the $$$ for college kids in STEM to be taking online classes....not sure what the future holds for our kids. |
| Same situation here. Can’t decide between two schools one of which she did not have a chance to visit. The only difference is that the unseen school is in-state and thus about 30% cheaper ( the other school offered merit). But...we still have another month to decide. |
| My daughter committed to UMD, and we feel good about the decision. She's been able to talk to current students, who said that the transition to online went well. If it has to be online in the fall, at least she'll be close and we'll be able to make the best of it. (She had also been looking at Vanderbilt.) |
My DS will be a first year nursing major in the fall and is supposed to take two lab sciences both semesters. How is this working for your DD if she does not have the lab portion of the class? I've been prepping my son that the curriculum may look different than expected if classes are online in the fall. |
| Not yet! One is a school she wasn’t able to visit. (I’m currently trying to get a refund for the plane tickets from the trip we had scheduled for this month.) |
I'll help: UMD. Done. |
| Yes. She committed to Smith. Hoping it is not online, but she will get through if it is. She is showing tons of resilience. |
Great school and they have a surprisingly large endowment, so I think they can wheather this pretty well. |
Yes, congratulations. Awesome school. |
| Yes, George Washington |

Acceptance rate at Northeastern is a little over 27% which is a lot more competitive than UMD's over 44% Unless there is another strong factor that makes one more attractive than the other, I'd go to Boston. (Also a much more culturally interesting and fun town than College Park). |
From what I understand, they are doing them online but it is nothing like the actual class and I think 2 of them are just problem sets - obviously no experiments etc. I guess they could watch videos of experiments but for people who want to train to be chemists, physicists etc that won't cut it! She doesn't think it's working well at all so far. Maybe they will improve it over the summer. I'd be curious to hear from others as well who are at different schools. I've heard from others that any class like math, econ and STEM where there are "problems" it's been very challenging and disappointing to the majority of students. |
| How much trouble would I be in if I walked around a campus for “exercise”, in order to do my own visit? |
