Has your HS senior committed to a university yet?

I guess if it’s nearby there would be no problem. The school we want to visit is in a different state 7 hours away and we have a stay-at-home order.

FYI - my kid in a STEM major has 3 lab classes on line. Profs are sending data, and making them do lab reports with the provided data plus more. They're making it work.

Northeastern has a beautiful campus in the heart of Boston. It was 10x better than BU and 20X better than College Park. My daughter loved that school: the campus, curriculum, the people, and the location, the co-op options; but ended up not going only because they didn't have Aerospace Engineering which is what she wanted for her major. She still didn't choose UMD though, has gone to visit friends a few times there (because it is like high school 2.0) and was still very happy with her decision.

Yes. She applied ED so the process was over and done with in December.

Where did she go?

Kid deciding between William & Mary (in-state) and Grinnell (with merit aid is more expensive, but not disasterously so). Interested in a double major with Computer Science and Spanish. Visited both before the shutdowns. Leaning towards W&M, but has not made a final decision.

Yep. Oberlin bound. It’s been her first choice from the get go. And she was lucky enough to get a second visit, overnight, class visit in— but only because it was her first choice. And to get enough merit aid to get the price close to WM.

Grinnell might have been a great choice, but it’s the one school we didn’t visit. That was the spring break plan. I’m disappointed she wasn’t able to give it a shot, but it’s hard to tell a kid to go to Iowa, sight unseen.

My DD hit into Northeastern but without merit. Do you mind sharing your kid's stats and what merit aid was offered at NEU?

UMD Aerospace Engineering is #5 ranked.

It may work but it is not the same as doing the work yourself in a lab! Getting data sets is only part of it.

Considering COVID can we for once not turn this thread into a pissing match?

No. Torn between merit aid at lower ranked schools and a top 50ish school for finance. Rated in top 20 or so for finance.
