Why is Blake Lively so overrated?

Anonymous wrote:Everyone has been obsessed with her since Gossip Girl.

I think she has a weird looking face and is such a bad actress.

No idea why the media is trying to make her happen.

She is not over rated .Lively received a lot of attention for being part of an It couple, but she herself was not overrated.

She is a victim of a smear campaign orchestrated by her “It Ends With Us” costar Justin Baldoni, his studio Wayfarer, Wayfarer CEO Jamey Heath, and their crisis management PR team. JB used the same crisis management PR firm as Johnny Depp did to smear Amber Heard during his DV trial.

How ironic that while filming a movie about DV - Blakey becomes pray to predatory behaviors and then well orchestrated attacks to destroy her reputation. The retaliation for confrontation of misogynistic behavior during filming followed a meeting to address "repeated sexual harassment and other disturbing behaviour" by Baldoni and Heath. Given the allegations of sexual harassment, routine degradation while filming and Baldoni and heath openly discussing their porn addictions: Lively’s requests were rational and reasonable. Demands to address the unprofessional behavior of Baldwin and Heath included: the presence of an intimacy coordinator with Lively at all times on the set, no discussions of personal experiences with sex or nudity, the hiring of an experienced producer to supervise the set, and no spontaneous improvisations in scenes of physical intimacy.

Instead of trying to make things right, the men savaged her reputation on social media. I had never heard anything bad about her before they set to work. The well-financed retaliation plan" against her included using a "digital army" to post social media content that seemed authentic.

I do think her marketing of the movie covering such a sensitive topic that affects so many women was tone deaf and he handled it much better with the guidance of his crisis management PR firm.

The level of misogyny on social media about both actresses tells us much more about society’s views on women then either actress.

Glad that Baldoni women's solidarity award rescinded amid the allegations

Blake, is that you?! Put the Aviation gin down and go play with your kids.

You are obviously one of Ms. Nathan's paid trolls.

That PP is so obvious about it. Claims to know nothing about any of this then rattles off the smear campaign talking points.

You’re gaslighting. Look, most of the public, including me, has no freaking clue who that producer actor man is. Most of the public never saw this movie they were in together. And yet, most of the public simply dislikes Blake Lively. People can think for themselves. People trust their gut and instincts. She simply doesn’t seem like a nice person, she can’t act to save her life, and she’s been shoved in our faces for 20 years as this supposed it girl. It all feels extremely fake, like she benefitted from a lot of insider help. And this new scorched earth victim campaign pivot as she approaches 40 years old isn’t going to change anyone’s mind about her. Hollywood is a sleazy place and the public simply doesn’t care. In case you weren’t aware, normal Americans can’t afford groceries right now and their student loans have to be repaid. Nobody gives a damn about some filthy rich arrogant actress. And it obviously doesn’t help that she and her husband are also obnoxious common opportunists.

I think both of these things are true. It is clear a lot of people have problems with Blake just because of all the over exposure and things lately. But the smear campaign took advantage of this. I feel like they lit a match and people just piled on. But I think without them, it wouldn’t have been as bad. They’re definitely would’ve been backlash, I mean there was backlash against her even being cast in this role from the start. But it wouldn’t have been this bad.

DP. I honestly only care about the smear campaign because it turns out Baldoni was harassing Lively in set and creating a hostile work environment. If they'd merely had a mutually bad work relationship and Baldoni had pulled the same PR tricks, I wouldn't care because I do think the capitalized on true things about Lively -- she can be super entitled, she's not a particularly talented actress, her fame was largely the product of being one of "Harvey's girls."

But once I heard about the harassment allegations, my attitude changed. If Baldoni was behaving that way on set, and the smear campaign was designed to discredit Lively so no one would believe her, that's disgusting.

The PR stuff only matters because if the harassment. Without the harassment, the PR stuff is just part of the usual PR game in Hollywood.

There is no denying that they carried out what they said they would. They literally said "we're crushing it on reddit." Also interesting is that in one message JB is talking about his "neurodivergence" which will explain why he acts the way he does.

She just seems so snotty and smug.

Both. I think she overreacted/distorted the original complaints. I also think that Baldoni and the other guy could have been gross (but not sexually harassing) in doing things like wanting to add additional sex scenes that were not necessary. I think she never wanted Baldoni to be on the film and took advantage of an opening to sideline him. and I think even after being successful in that, she set out to publicly humiliate him right as the film was being marketed. Then I think he went too far in retaliating against all of that, and is likely liable.

I agree that some of the issues in the legal complaint could be overstated - it was written by her lawyers in the service of advocating for their client - but I disagree that stuff like improvising extra physical contact in an intimate scene that she wasn’t expecting, hiring Baldoni’s friend (rather than a real actor) to play her OB and stick his head between her legs during a birth scene, and entering her trailer uninvited when she was undressed is “gross behavior.” It’s sexual harassment and it shouldn’t be tolerated in any workplace.

This stuff is pretty easily verifiable (allegedly multiple witnesses) so if it’s true, I don’t care if her lawyers engaged in a little puffery to describe how egregious it was. It’s bad.

Is it right that there are also allegations that he was talking about her and Ryan’s porn viewing? That’s also wildly inappropriate. I think a lot of actors and other artists just don’t know how to behave in a professional environment. I think I heard SAG was doing trainings after 2017 to try and make sure everyone is on the same page about what’s normal professional behavior.

Yes, the complaint states that he referenced porn and his porn addiction on multiple occasions and also asked her if she watched porn. And then announced her answer (no) to others. And that the other producer showed her (without asking permission or providing any warnings) a video of his wife giving birth while naked, apparently to direct her to act similarly in the birth scene. The examples are really insane.

I agree with you that this stuff crosses the line, even if maybe standards of professional conduct are a little looser in a movie studio vs. in a corporate office. It’s really not acceptable.

lol! OMG. Mansplaining at it's peak. Like Blake Likely, a mother of how many kids (?), isn't familiar with childbirth and how it should look.

I guess the irony is that someone who very clearly slept her way to the top is now outraged that someone is exploiting sex in their career.

What a bunch of nonsense. That's not how any of this works. Unless you're trying to say JB slept with Blake which nobody is alleging happened.

Very clearly? Where are the receipts? Just because she stood NEXT TO Harvey Weinstein doesn't mean she slept with him.

Plus they debated about which negative stores to plant. They didn't want anyone to find out about the fat shaming or sexual inappropriateness that happened on set. So they posted a bunch of crap about her being hard to work with. Meanwhile JB wanted to be the hero so asked them to only post things about him being a DV crusader. What a loser.

So maybe these PR people need to hire their own PR people to get them out of the mess they created.

I am 8:22 (talking about how the PR stuff only bothers me because of the underlying harassment on set).

I actually think one issue with Lively's team coming out hard regarding the PR campaign is that is is *highly* likely, if not guaranteed, that Lively and Reynolds have hired PR teams that have used similar tactics. In fact it's possible their PR team engaged in the exact same strategy against Baldoni when the film was coming out and all the rumors about a rift between them was swirling.

The *effect* of the same campaign against Baldoni will be different because (1) he's not as famous so you will never get the same traction on social media as you will with a smear campaign against someone as high profile as Lively, and (2) we live in a deeply misogynist society, so getting people to hate on an attractive actress is MUCH easier than getting them to hate on an attractive actor/director.

But the tactics are the same. Which is why I find the people acting horrified by what Baldoni's PR team did here are being either disingenuous or very naive. Especially people in the industry acting shocked. What Baldoni is alleged to have done on set is awful (and illegal, and actionable). What his PR team is alleged to have done is honestly pretty run of the mill PR. Yes it is distasteful but if you've ever worked in media or politics, none of it should shock you. This is literally how PR works -- you use manipulative tactics to sway the narrative in favor of your client and, if necessary, against anyone who is making your client look bad. That's literally the whole job.

BL's other love interest in the film has now also made a strong show of support. The cast and crew KNOW what happened, couldn't be more clear that they're all supporting here. Interested to see what Hasam Minhaj, who's had his own issues, will do. He seems to be Baldoni's only friend among the cast.

Look, if you're that worried about your private texts getting out because you know you engage in sleazy and shady behavior, you know you're up to no good and you know it. Most companies warn employees that their private work communications aren't really private.
