Six kids...eight kids - when did every family turn into the brady bunch?

It's strange to me to see households with 5 or more kids in the 21st Century. Is this common in your area?

6 kids and mom die in a house fire - the mom was only 33!

No. Not common. Anywhere. They are outliers.

Are we now criticizing dead mothers for the number of children they have?

According to census data, it's not common at all and it's going down over time.

Probably these events warranted news articles particular because the victims left behind so many kids.

The numbers of kids make the headline because they are unusual and newsworthy. You don't see "mom of one, killed in a car accident."

You do if she was the cause - drunk or erratic driving.

When celebrities starting gracing the covers of magazines with those tight pregnant dresses.

These are horrible news stories OP. How is your first thought about the Brady Bunch? You know it’s uncommon so why ask?

I’m so heartbroken for that father who lost his wife and six children. I can’t even imagine.

Or if she was a celebrity. Or an astronaut. The list goes on, but it has nothing to do with the topic.

No, and it's not common in your area, either.

Except its not so uncommon anymore? Every week I see an article on IVF multiples or somehow a family of 5+ got into some kind of trouble or a celebrity with the same number - Eddie Murphy has 9 and Kevin Costner has 7.

I thought we were going away from huge families with the advent of birth control but I guess not.

None of my six kids were accidents, dear. We knew exactly what we were doing. What a stupid statement.

They really need to start teaching basic statistics in schools.

The plural of anecdotes isn't data. It's uncommon, but the rare incidents make good clickbait, so you see them in the "media".

I think the largest families I know are either very poor or very well off. Our complex includes a 5 br apt! Which is insane because it is only the size of a two bedroom and one bedroom together and the bedrooms are tiny. However, it is across from the ES and a 10 min walk to the MS. And there are no rental homes under $2500/mo.
