Wasn’t my term. A few years ago The NY Times Magazine did an article on the new status symbols. Apparently a lot of kids told them that having a SAHM was also a status symbol because in NYC that means dad is rich. Now that’s cringeworthy. I remember this because of my friends.

+1. I work at an elementary school that has interesting boundaries. The families with four or more children are either very well off (5,000+ sq ft home, nice cars, fancy vacations) or quite the opposite (the entire family is crammed into a 1 br + den apartment and doesn't have reliable transportation). I grew up locally and it was like that when I was a kid, too.

It’s like that in some circles here. Especially when the couple has two or three older kids evenly spaced and then a newborn.

This thread is hilarious. I personally know 3 families with 5 kids (2 in my hood), and one family in our neighborhood with TEN kids. Not a joke. It’s unbelievable. In a 1980’s split level.

I have five children. I’m very sad to hear about the mom and her children passing away from the fire in their home. People that are offended by the size of my family are obviously unfulfilled in their own family life and lashing out.

No farm. As for being religious, it is defined as, “relating to or believing in a religion,” so yes. I’m sure you’d like to believe it means something different though so I’ll leave any conjecture up to you.

Does your religion encourage large families or discourage birth control? Does it play a factor at all in your family planning?

I see where you’re going, but there’s really no correlation. It’s somewhat offensive actually. We’re quite capable of controlling ourselves and not having kids, you know? We’ve chosen to have a large family.

How are those questions offensive? Family planning is an important part of some religions. ??

Sounds exactly like how religions use family planning to control their #s. It’s easier to have kids born into a religion than recruit others.
