Trump has isolated the US from the world, and our economy will suffer bigly for it.

EU is going to ban travelers from US while allow them from China and Cuba.

That prospect, which would lump American visitors in with Russians and Brazilians as unwelcome, is a stinging blow to American prestige in the world and a repudiation of President Trump’s handling of the virus in the United States, which has more than 2.3 million cases and upward of 120,000 deaths, more than any other country.

European nations are currently haggling over two potential lists of acceptable visitors based on how countries are faring with the coronavirus pandemic. Both include China, as well as developing nations like Uganda, Cuba and Vietnam.

It really isn’t rocket science. You just need leadership and competence

Fauci today” When you have those kinds of increases you must implement on the ground. You need the manpower, the systems, the tests to ID, to contact trace and blunt the surge.”

The Dean of Harvard School of Public Health (the best public health department in the world) today was asked what he would do if he was in charge and he said. He would coordinate with state governments to make sure in every state
1). Mandatory mask wearing anytime you are outside your house
2) uniform and clear guidelines about Social Distancing. So for example probably no night clubs etc
3) ramped up testing (5 million a day now and continue to ramp up). He said this was our best shot at detecting outbreaks and understanding how the virus spreads
4) loads of trained contact tracers
5) huge stockpile of PPE
6). All above efforts coordinated by the federal government which would gather and share information and ensure a smooth supply chain of tests, PPE and therapies

None of the above is difficult- heck it is all pretty low tech BUT it is very hard work which means you need a massive whole of government response.
He said that Germany had done this very successfully and so people are able to get back to work.
He said we would never get this under control if we don’t have a uniform and coordinated national approach. He also said that we got discouraged and impatient and that we need leadership to encourage people to stay the course.

This

You don't need a Harvard dean to say this. You can find many posts similar to this. What I don't understand is why the federal government refuses to implement it. Though it's tedious work, the alternative is trillions of dollars and thousands of lives.

this poor kid and her poor family - told by trump and desantis there was no risk to being out and about. dead at 17.

Complications from COVID-19 claimed the life Tuesday of a 17-year-old Fort Myers high student, one of the youngest victims of the pandemic in Florida, according to news and social media accounts.

Carsyn Davis was admitted Friday to Golisano Children’s Hospital Hospital in Fort Myers, according to a GoFundMe page organized by friends. Two days later, on her 17th birthday, she was admitted to the intensive care unit with COVID-19.

I don't think it's mere correlation that you see the States that are having spikes right now so happen to be the states that have the most 'Murica!/Give me Liberty or Give me Death! people. Having common sense guidelines is one thing, expecting people to follow or have effective enforcement is another.

Trump is either completely ignorant or crazy.

Yesterday we added 36,015 new cases, the most since May 1st, and 863 deaths. Arizona, Texas, and Florida are having serious outbreaks now.

USA Total 2,424,168 +36,015 123,473 +863
Arizona 58,179 +3,593 1,384 +42

Trump is both. He also doesn't care about anybody but himself. He and everyone near him gets tested all the time.

Trump administration ending support for 7 Texas testing sites as coronavirus cases spike
President Trump’s administration is ending its support for coronavirus testing sites across the country at the end of the month, including seven in Texas, as COVID-19 cases continue to spike in a number of areas nationwide.

Several Texas officials are calling on the administration to extend the support for the testing sites, with the Houston Health Department’s public health authority writing that the lack of support could cause “catastrophic cascading consequences.” Officials are requesting the funding for these testing locations be extended until August 30.

Four of the seven Texas sites in jeopardy are located in Houston and Harris County, which public experts say could become the area worst hit by COVID-19 in the country.

There is nothing stopping states from using their own budgets to continue testing.

yes because pandemics definitely stop at state lines and the federal government should do nothing to try to prevent 100k more americans dying of a preventable, highly contagious disease

Anybody know what happened in Delaware yesterday? They recorded 69 deaths yesterday, the most of any of the 50 states, even though they rank 46th in population.

And there's nothing stopping the federal government to assist, either. Except for Trump. He doesn't care if people die.
