I have a desktop in the office and a laptop for TW. Did you always work on a laptop? |
Lots of places only give you a laptop and docking station at the office. |
Yep, and only one docking station so if you're going back and forth you either need to buy your own or unplug everything and bring that too. |
This makes me want to cry. Many of us are planning on working 6-2:30 or 7-3:30 so we can spend more time with our kids. Typically my work would hate that (I work with California) but I dgaf. DH drops the kids off in the morning and I'll get off work earlier to get them. |
I’ve only ever had a laptop. Almost 20 years in. And I’ve been able to do ad hoc or recurring telework all but my very first year in service. I am currently required to be in the office the exact amount I was pre COVID (NBU capital region employee) and feel like only NBU is going to be initially subject to this due to CBAs. So only a small fraction of the current work force at my agency will end up coming in full time and it sucks to be the scapegoat. |
The amount of stuff to carry is a lot. I used to drive and still drive for one day a week but the cost of a parking spot has gotten prohibitive so I think I’m going to try to metro - carrying the laptop, personal items, all my food and also water for the day (we don’t have drinkable water) gets very heavy. |
I use a roller bag. There are nice ones. You’re right it is a lot of stuff. I keep olive oil, vinegar, some snacks, and shoes at work. |
| What about people covered by CBAs? |
I agree with you. In my office there is not enough space so they will just bring the NBUs back and leave the rest with telework This will not work long term as who the heck will ever be a manager in the future. We are all wondering if we should drop down to a BU grade already. |
I am most definitely regretting taking a promotion 2 years ago. I’d be a topped out 14 at this point which is now almost a negligible difference from a topped out 15, and I’d still be BU. |
Why would you take your laptop home? No need to |
| It's almost 5pm. We were all told to report on Monday and figure out seating arrangements at that time. Oh well folks, the writings are on the wall for some of us. There are only 29 seats for a staff of 50+. I guess we all will be cozy in conference rooms. |
Not taking my laptop home anymore. |
| All of you people saying you are going to cart your laptop back and forth - just DONT. Personally, I have back pain and can't do this. They are just going to have to deal that if I am not in the office, they aren't getting any work out of me. I am not lugging my computer equipment back and forth on the metro. |
That sounds productive. |
