New OPM memo on RTO

I am a federal contractor planning to turn in my notice on Friday. I can make the same amount of money elsewhere working fully remote. And given my commuting costs will now be close to $4K a year, I’m fine with a pay cut.

They aren't leasing more space for us in the next 40 days.

I completely agree, this is horribly written. I still don’t understand the need to make a blanket policy when agencies have so many different functions. I’m pretty sure at least one of my teammates is going to quit. She lives about two hours away from the office but was hired because we support industry in her area so she’s close by to our industry partners. If she quits they will have to TDY us when we visit those facilities.

And it’s full of lies.

I’ll be really interested in how my office is going to get everyone to fit back in the building. Right now, I use my office M/T and someone else uses it W/Th

"Fairness requires that federal office employees show up to the worksite each day like most other American workers."

Eyeroll. So.. this all really boils down to some people being jealous their workplace/career doesn't accommodate remote work, huh?

Most other American workers do not show up to the worksite every day. At least white collar folks.

No, it boils down to a lazy pretense for stealth layoffs.

Mainly a blanket policy across all agencies that everyone needs to report back immediately. They aren’t leaving it up to each individual agency to come up with a plan.

It is not my responsibility to prop up the DC economy. I’m going to boycott all businesses-no buying coffee, no buying lunch, no snacks at the office cafeteria. No parking since I’ll be taking the metro, which is already in bad shape. Screw this.

What the hell does this mean? If you live more than 50 miles away, you'll have to sit at the nearest govt. building?
