Nope, you’re missing the bigger picture. By having one of the best high schools in the country (also better overall school system), it attracts businesses, jobs and home buyers. Which in turn increases real estate prices and tax base. |
|
None of that helps the underprivileged sections of the community. Those increased Tax’s are not going to the poor school districts. Poor people aren’t getting hired for jobs requiring degrees or buying expensive homes.
|
Yes it does. |
No. “Attracting businesses” isn’t the mission of TJ. |
Exactly. |
| If you want a race to the bottom, you will turn FCPS into DCPS. DCPS caters to the poor and middle. |
| Tell that to the likely Asian doctor who grew up in absolute poverty by global standards who is caring for you next time you go to hospital. |
I've read the improved admission process had much better outcomes for almost every demographic cohort but the one which was still overrepresented by 3X so overall a huge improvement. |
I think you’re missing the bigger picture. By setting aside 30% of its seats for students who don’t live in the county and then taking up a disproportionate amount of the time and attention of school administrators and a School Board with a limited bandwidth to engage in political confrontations with the community over equitable access, TJHSST deprives other schools of attention and resources, contributes to overcrowding at county schools, underscores the gulf between a single magnet school and the other 24 high schools in FCPS, and reveals the overt politicization of local elected officials. It’s outlived its usefulness and should be returned to community use ASAP. |
Nah. Every year they apply to receive the money for Governor's school from the State. You need legislative/Governor's actions to change the status of governor's school back to base school. Do better and do some research before spreading disinformation Russian puppet. |
That kid wouldn’t get into TJ under the previous process because NO POOR KIDS GOT IN UNDER THE PREVIOUS PROCESS |
The county owns TJ, not the state, moron. |
Making 29,000 or 31,000 for a family of 3 might not make the kid qualify for FARMS but that sure ain't rich. Get a grip. |
PWC, Loudoun, Arlington and Falls Church City PAID about 27% of the building renovation costs (tens of millions of dollars) so they have partial ownership Russian asset. |
That’s also not absolute poverty by global standards. Very few people in America live in absolute poverty by global standards. |
