Actually TJ's new policy hurts black people in the long run.

Definitely going to have to show your work on that one. Start by talking about how access to college opportunities has harmed Black folks.

You know why. Just doesn't suit your narrative and self-interests.

Because they need to know their place. TJ is reserved for their betters

Nope. Wrong. The kids will do fine at TJ. They have mostly richer more involved black parents. It is just that it doesn't improve the community overall as politicians are just using a few kids to claim victory when the bigger problem is building the base/pipeline and improving standards - look at the statistics on high school math/language metrics. And white folks just displaced some pesky Asians and are slapping each other on the back.

Focus should be on helping the entire Black community. Not just pushing a few richer, privileged black people and claiming false victory.

Amen.

Seems like the Supreme Court is not that popular anymore among TJ anti-Asian progressives.

There are far, FAR more anti-Asian conservatives than anti-Asian progressives.

Citation?

Which party runs around with tiki torches and swastikas again?

Exactly. These people are willing to side with folks who want to return us to the Jim Crow era and burn down our democratic institutions all to save them a few theoretical percentage points in admissions to elite schools.

It's more than TJ, it is not acceptable for elected SB members to mock and openly discriminate against Asians and set out to reduce Asian numbers. Politicians openly making statements and taking actions against a racial minority group in a mocking/racist way is never acceptable.

You will never understand why Asians are upset if you keep saying - why are they so rabid about TJ.

Two problems with this:

1) TJ even after the changes is >50% Asian
2) Selection is race blind.

+1

It was done in a shitty way but it was a step in the right direction.

If TJ is a problem that can't be fixed then it should just go away.

Yes it's taking way too many resources and benefiting a small group . It's time to end it.

haha -- the crown jewel fof the FCPS system, the acknowledged best high school in the country - you're delusional.

DP but the “crown jewel” rhetoric is repulsive and a strong argument for doing away with TJHSST. The TJ community has become a narcissistic blight on FCPS.

Being racist is never a step in the right direction. There was nothing wrong with TJ to fix. Lack of academic achievement by certain student demographic groups is not a problem caused by TJ.

The result is a step in the right direction.

There was much wrong with TJ to anyone who actually cared about racism instead of opportunistically shrieking about it in bad faith.

You are right, the racists were the only ones who thought there was much wrong with TJ. You are one of them.

So true. Racists couldn't handle the fact that the Asians were doing well.

Oh no the issues is the C4TJ racists doen't want an inclusive environment and are trying to limit admissions of others.

They only reacted to being targeted by racist changes. You just wanted them to be do nothing and not react like good little Asians are supposed to do?

Replacing some middle class White and Asians with poor Asian, Black, White and Hispanic kids isn’t racist.

Every institution in the country wants more people from underprivileged backgrounds. Everyone. Making that practice illegal just because middle class POCs of all races won’t get the advantages that they have become accustomed to won’t fly.

It all depends on how it's done, doesn't it? If you do it as the FCPS School Board did, you end up with at least federal judge concluding that you violated the Constitution, and of course there are other pending cases about admissions before a conservative Supreme Court. Your conclusory statement may be a better wish than prediction.

Judge Hilton ruled that the admissions process was discriminatory against Asians, and if you read his opinion, the strongest evidence that he was able to provide was a simple before-and-after comparison combined with a reference to a few statements indicating that the School Board and Superintendent wanted to see TJ reflect the community that it drew from.

It's not exactly a challenge to get a politically friendly judge to rule that constitutional things are unconstitutional and vice-versa.

Quotas have been illegal for a long time now. You are basically arguing for racial quotas. Stick to the "each school should have a few seats" argument as your best angle here since it makes sense, and it does not rely on race. Trust me. For example, Arlington and Loudoun contribute to the cost of running TJ so they get an allotment of seats. Every school district in Fairfax contributes to TJ, so they each should get an allotment of seats.

Tell that to the POTUS who openly stated that he used gender and race as a hard quota for some of his appointees.

May be you should look at the quota argument in light of the property taxes from McLean that flow into the County kitty. Not only does the TJ decision penalize McLean residents but McLean High School has also been shafted by the County when it comes to renovations.

Perhaps some “equity” ought to be at work here? At least give McLean it’s due? Fix capacity issues at McLean High School? Especially with all the additional kids coming in after the new TJ policy capped Longfellow admissions at TJ?

So let us not get into quotas and fair share? McLean pays among the highest taxes per capita and should get equitable treatment from the County. TJ is but one issue, renovating McLean High is another. And these are tied together.

So let us not get into quotas and fair share? McLean pays among the highest taxes per capita and should get equitable treatment from the County. TJ is but one issue, renovating McLean High is another. And these are tied together.

The people with real money in McLean send their kids to private anyway so they don’t care.

Those people are primarily in the Langley pyramid which is under capacity so they shouldn’t care. PP, is correct about Mclean high school.

It all depends on how it's done, doesn't it? If you do it as the FCPS School Board did, you end up with at least federal judge concluding that you violated the Constitution, and of course there are other pending cases about admissions before a conservative Supreme Court. Your conclusory statement may be a better wish than prediction.

It's not exactly a challenge to get a politically friendly judge to rule that constitutional things are unconstitutional and vice-versa.

If you believe the judiciary is that nakedly political, then it only proves the PP was right and that you should be shaking in your boots about how the Supreme Court will rule in pending and future cases involving challenges to admissions practices rather than making bold claims that Judge Hilton’s ruling will not survive further review.

If McLean and Marshall are over capacity and Langley is under capacity the solution seems obvious. Adjust the boundaries.

That’s a different issue but the answer lies in first getting rid of Elaine Tholen, who went along with TJ admissions changes but has done nothing to fight for fair funding for McLean HS despite knowing the changes would mean even more kids at MHS. She’s been a total disaster.

Clearly you didn't read the opinion. That's not all the evidence he pointed to.

DP. It is exactly all the evidence he pointed to.
