I loved it!! My favorite of this last trilogy. I think JJ really stuck the landing.
Anyone else get a little teary when Chewbacca finally got his medal?!? |
| It wasn’t my favorite, but I definitely liked it. I don’t think they needed the kiss. It didn’t play well with anyone in the audience when I saw it. Loud grumbling when that happened. I loved the visual of Palpatine using his force lightning on all the rebel ships above him. That was cool. And I didn’t want to punch Finn in this one, so that’s a plus! |
| I'm a Trekkie who could never get into Star Wars. With that said, I loved The Force Awakens, and I didn't think The Last Jedi was that bad. I didn't like The Rise of Skywalker at all. They were all over the place in terms of pacing and story. I feel like they were trying to make this one the "epic conclusion" to all nine films instead of the rebooted three films. I never felt like the last order or whatever the empire was called this go round was particularly menacing. Palpatine was shoehorned into this one, The Force being able to heal people at will and bring them back to life negated any life or death situations from previous films, and Rey became more powerful than all of the Jedi from the previous films. |
I thought it was pretty good but some random stuff in there. What happened to Rose Tico? she had like 2 lines in this movie. And she basically professed her love to finn in the last movie and that follow up was completely left off. Then Finn says to Rey "I need to tell you something...." and then NEVER tells her. He seemed like he was in love with her the whole time but then they threw in the black girl who also seemed to be a love interest. Except it seemed like LAndo was gonna hit on her at the end which was just creepy and not needed at all. PP were people complaining about the lesbian kiss or the kylo/ren kiss? I think Adam Driver is so offing annoying. His voice, his face etc. |
| I really liked The Rise of Skywalker, but I acknowledge that it was pretty frenetic in the first half. I think the cramped plot made sense since JJ Abrams had so little to work with after The Last Jedi. I know that critics and lots of people loved TLJ, but i don't think it moved the Skywalker saga forward at all. |
I think you misread the Lando thing: I think Lando will turn out to be her father or grandfather -- new story line of the stolen storm trooper children. |
| Agree about the pacing. |
|
I liked it better than The Last Jedi. I was confused at Rey kissing Ben. I thought she liked Finn and that he liked her, but also liked Rose. Then the new girl at the end said she wanted to stay near Finn and Lando was like let’s travel. So weird.
Side note I don’t like Adam Driver as Kylo Ren but I like him in other movies. |
That was the point though. Rey harnessed the power of all the Jedi -- she essentially became a conduit of all of their power just as Palatine had done with the dark side. Agree that a story line with healing always needs a limit on the power, and this did -- when you heal another, you weaken yourself in equal parts. That's why Kylo Ren, even being reinforced by Leia, died -- he gave his whole life force to Rey. |

I liked it. They made it unambiguously the Rey and Kylo show and demoted everyone else to Chewbacca status.
The kiss at the end was weird but kind of where this whole thing had been going. Also they didn’t spend a third of the movie on a wild goose chase that ended up being a red herring like the last film. |

I liked it despite grumbling from friends and family who are insane fan level (one cousin practices the Jedi religion). I felt like the kids was okay. Star Wars never gets romance right. Mild sexual tension, sure.
I liked the new characters. I didn’t read the new black girl as a love interest for Finn or Lando. I think the bond with Finn was from being stolen kids/former stormtroopers. And I think Lando just likes adventures. Poe grew a lot in his maturity as a leader. |
| Hi liked it. The last movie made it hard To clean all that up. JJ did a good job. |

Anakin is not the chosen one.
There was no point to Snoke. Palpatine in weak state raises million ships? But couldn't do that in any other movie and spent years building a death star? Rey just kills her grandpappy because she is all the Jedi? In non cannon we have healing Jedi, but now we have them here too, to resurrect anyone when it suits the plot holes? How did Palpatine come back to life? Put it in the crawl, don't really explain it. Kills all the Skywalkers and call the movie The Rise of Skywalker?! |
| Oh yeah, and kills her resurrect her, kills him resurrect him... |

Sorry from a visual perspective it was great. That’s about it. This Disney trilogy has been just awful. Even the prequels were better than this. It’s all just a remake of the first 3 films and all it does it kill the legacy of Luke and Anakin taking down Palpatine to where this random girl Rey, who is Palpatines granddaughter??? And then steals the Skywalker name?!? What is this trash I’m seeing. Rise of Skywalker is like a bad comedy where you know all of the catchphrases and one liners already so they shove it in your face constantly while the movie moves way too fast.
Rise of Skywalker is the Fuller House of movies; an unnecessary reboot that doesnt have a purpose to exist other than “remember this’ great!!!”. |
