| It was so great. They subverted all their own tropes for traditional tropes that they subverted in the first place. Rey is a Mary Sue and not a Mary Sue simultaneously. Sigh. It would be nice if they had a consistent story at some point. In the next movie, who comes back from the dead as the real deal real puppet master? |
I liked it, but this part of the plot was essentially an Avatar the last Airbender ripoff. |
|
It’s like Harry Potter meets Prometheus
Yeah the emperor resurrection part is a more than a little troublesome now that you mention it. But they did seem a bit written into a corner coming into this |
|
| I like that it is still gritty and dirty and not perfect like Star Trek and so many other sci fi movies. People sweat. There’s dust and stains. |
And the moral choices are all simple. Everyone can be saved unless you are the big evil. |
I didn’t find them all simple. Hux wasn’t saved. He clearly said all he cared was that Kylo Ren lost. He didn’t gain a moral compass at all. |

I'm not really into this genre, but went with the family today.
I thought the story line was good. I think some of you complainers need to lighten up and just enjoy it for what it is -- a science fantasy movie that is meant to entertain people for a few hours. I felt like this one had more dialog and story than the SOLO or the one where Kylo killed his father. I'd prefer that they lose about 90% of the starship battles and light saber battles, but aside from that, it was good. |
If you’re a lifelong fan of the saga, this movie introduces things never done before that don’t make any sense and retroactively ruin the original trilogy. That’s why people have issues with it. |
I am a lifelong, serious fan and I totally disagree with this assessment. |
Another lifelong fan, and I also totally disagree with pp. |
| I liked the movie but my DH hated it. We're both lifelong fans. There were certainly a lot of inconsistencies, but I thought it was enjoyable. I thought that Adam Driver was great. I could've lived without dumb stuff like horses galloping on a space station, and Rey being able to pull a ship from the sky (but not being able to pull herself out of quicksand). |
I didn’t say EVERYONE, I said people. Sorry hun, but you two don’t represent everyone. So shutup |
I’m a lifelong fan, too—of the books and movies—and also disagree with you. I loved it. |
I think the idea is she finally learned how to harness the power within her by the end. |
