Served with Summons for child custody days before planned trip

Anonymous
I filed for child support from my kids father and his response has been to file for joint custody. We live in different states and his filing basically halted the child support process all year. I am supposed to be traveling with my kid on vacation in a few days and the papers say I can't travel with the child without permission from him. He will definitely not approve now he has the power to do so, does anyone have ideas on what I can do in 3 days to address this? Hotels and tickets have already been paid for. Thank you.

Well you got 3 days to convince him otherwise. Get to reconciling.

Get permission from him. You are going to have to work with
him at some point. Start working with him.

Out of country? Forget about it. I would never let my child go and would cancel the passports.

Get refunds on the hotels. Get credits on the airline tickets.
Generally you can't refund the tickets but you can get
credits.

Is it domestic or international?

He is the child's parent. You should have had discussion
about the holidays and who the child would be with for the holidays months ago.

The child lives with me fulltime and I did ask him if he had plans for the kid before planning my trip. It is international travel but we have gone several times. Two years ago he asked that I drop our child off with his family when I got abroad and ended up borrowing money from me to pay for the ticket. I live here, we are coming back.

Not sure if this is relevant but I have not received any child support or contributions to expenses this year.

If you do go, how will he find out?

But some parents don't. And if it's a place you're familiar with, it's not completely crazy to think you'd stay there instead of coming back. Do I think that's your plan? Absolutely not. But I cant blame him if he's concerned.
