He’s not staying at Hayfield in the aftermath of a scandal. If this sticks, Overton is gone and so is the athletic director.

Gone as in they are both promoted to Gatehouse?

Back in the 90’s, they investigated WT Woodson because Greg Williams’s dad rented an apartment for him to attend. This has been going on for ever. There are kids all over Fairfax County right now, going to particular High Schools to be part of an athletic program.

If they are disciplining Hayfield because of "students transferring in order to play football", there should be a lot more athletic programs becoming banned soon.

It was foolish of this coach to be so dumb and obvious about it- 33 transfers in one year is just asking for a spotlight.

If you have evidence that some other coach broke the rules, you should send that on the VHSL. MOST coaches are smart enough to stay within the rules.

I’m no snitch and I’m not going to f up any kids high school experience.

This is just a game we are talking about. I am rooting for any kid that is trying to prove they are the best at what they do.

Doesn’t Overton coach girls basketball as well? I wonder if this will have any impact on his basketball coaching. Are his basketball teams successful too? Does he have the same type of allegations with girls basketball?

My frustration with your logic is, 1.) you’re admitting to be okay with breaking the rules, and 2.) you’re more concerned with the ‘experience’ of 20-30 kids more than all the players on all the other teams Hayfield competes with that their high school experience was negatively impacted by competing against a stacked team.

Not public HS basketball.

Traditionally All seniors at Hayfield are honored on senior night-the last home game. Including band, dance team, flag.

At that game, Hayfield had already received the VHSL suspension letter. There is a Post article about that game which states the Hayfield players were not made available to the reporters due to pending investigations.

However, the school/coach only acknowledge the senior football players, (and went on and on for some---but not all---of them. The kids who got the resume were of course transfer players)-----departing from our normal tradition.

They said the other seniors in band, dance etc would be recognized at the first home playoff game *knowing the team was suspended and would not be playing*.

Ooof.

That is terrible.

I can’t say they broke the rules and if they did, karma will come back to them.

He did at Freedom is what they poster thinking.

Also, thank you to whoever posted about Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) investigation of Roosevelt HS. Was interesting to read what other side of country doing as they start their investigation - there only 12 kids but some at risk to not play a year depending how all falls out.

So no VHSL needed, coaches will be scared straight by karma?

Running up the scores while coaches were publicly trash talking other high schools as well as bragging about running up the scores was also pretty stupid.

Prediction if school 2 year post season ban not appealed: Overton will shop himself to a new school outside of FCPS for next fall. Kids will follow.

Once again screwing over the real Hayfield players.

And where is the principal and athletic director in all this?!?! How have they not stepped up and made comments about this mess? I have seen the head coach and assistant coaches (and parents/community) all over social media defending their position. But no word from the principal and athletic director? Come on man! Be a leader!!

Exactly. Whatever sanctions are put on Hayfield will quickly be in Overton’s rear-view mirror and he and his staff will move on without a thought. And if the VSHL sanctions follow Overton to any other school in VA, then he’ll just go to MD or NC. Will only be the actual local kids left with the mess he leaves behind.

Coach and his staff know they can land anywhere safely and none of this will stick to them. The Principal and AD probably busy trying to figure out how to keep their jobs, because they won’t be able to follow Overton. Someone posted earlier the Asst Superintendent is mixed up in this as well- so will see if she can come out clean too-guessing she, Principal and AD will all say they had no idea and coach and staff say sure they did the stuff but didn’t know doing anything wrong.
