Elementary School-Aged Kids
During music class my daughter had a pee and poop accident. The school called and said that she was too messy and they I would need to come clean her up and honestly it might be best if I we just took her home for her a bath. She in K. I’m really upset that I had to leave work to come get her for what is a very normal accident for a 5yr old. And just to be clear, she had extra clothes in her bag. If this happened often, I would understand, but this is the first time she had a poop accident at school.
Not a normal thing for a 5yo. Take her home and give her a bath.
Its not normal at all. A pee accident, yes, especially when teachers restrict bathroom time but if she peed and pooped, for her sake, take her home and bath her so the other kids don't tease her. It is not their job to change poop.
OP, I'm sorry that your daughter had an accident, but it is not normal for a kindergartener to have a pee and poop accident. They are not a daycare -- they aren't set up for that type of clean up. It sounds unlikely that she could have cleaned herself up and it is absolutely not the teacher's job (or anyone at school's) job to wipe/clean those types of accidents.
She must be so embarrassed. Please let her go home. Poor kiddo.
Maybe they worried that she is getting sick. I agree that this doesn't seem "very normal" for kindergarten.
It is not daycare. They are not permitted to assist her in getting cleaned up.
+1 children in Kindergarten don’t poop themselves and elementary schools aren’t set up for it. |
Sorry, have to agree that an accident like that is not normal in K. If she had thrown up on herself, you’d likely get a similar call. It’s your responsibility.
Not normal for a NT 5 yo. Do you mean she has had other pee accidents? Really not not normal at all. Is she SN? You might need to add a plan to her IEP if this is a regular occurrence.
school isn't daycare. they don't care that you are at work when they call. a 5 year old is not going to be able to clean herself up to be sanitary after peeing and pooping all over herself in music class. Also, it is unusual enough that they are probably thinking she might have a contagious bug, so best go home for the day. Do you want your 5 year old to stay at school and after care smeared with pee and poop that she couldn't get off?
Has she had pee accidents?
No she is not SN. She has 2-3 pee accidents but never poop. She does have some anxiety surrounding asking to go the the bathroom. Her K class does not have a bathroom in the classroom. They take 3 scheduled bathroom breaks as a class, but she doesn’t always utilize those teams. I wish the teacher would push her to always try during those breaks. I do not think that I should have to come take her home in the middle of the day tho. I’m sure this is something schools nurses are used to.
no, they are not. Your poor daughter,

our school nurses office is staffed by parent volunteers-there is never an actual nurse on-site. are you a troll? three pee accidents already and its only early October? this is a problem you need to be on top of. most kids don't have one accident all year in K. |
