Help me figure out a way to get some strength training in

I can only work out at home. Lifting is so boring to me. I like HIIT workouts, yoga, barre but feel like I should be lifting or at least strength training. Ideas or websites that make it fun? Maybe mix it into cardio? Barre 3 I’ve heard uses weights but I’m not sure it’s stregth training per se. Thank you

If lifting weights is boring, you're doing it wrong.

Use body weight. Calisthenics doesn't have to be limited to push ups, pull ups, and body weight squats. Come back when you can do 100 push ups and 20+ pulls ups without stoppage.

"I can only work out at home." -- why?

I have small kids and we have two working parents. At home, early morning (5 am) is only time I can work out

Get some resistance bands and look up YouTube workouts for resistance bands.

The Peloton app has some really good strength training classes that are fun and entertaining.

I've been going to HIIT classes for moms that start at 8:30 at night and they are great! DH watches kids. The franchise is Fit4Mom, maybe see if there is one in your area. I am not good at working out at home, so I need the travel+stuck in a room+instructor+other people motivation.

I don’t love it either, but just power through and do 10 mins of weights after whatever other cardio or barre workout I do. Low reps, heavy weights, doesn’t take long.

+1 I do these classes daily - stack them for a longer workout. I'm looking better than ever.

Buy weights,5,10,12 lbs and do basic moves immediately after your other workout. Start at 10 minutes and move up to 15 to 20 every other day. Fit a leg day in there also, squats and lunges are effective and easy to toss in while your kids are getting ready for school or as they’re doing homework in the evening. I will go for a 30 minute run, then get home and turn on GMA, pick up some weights and in between sets toss together their lunches, take gulps of coffee, etc. do 5 minutes of crunches or push ups each day also. I use YouTube for quick free videos so I don’t get bored and did Pinterest to get an idea of basic moves that I can manage on my own after it becomes routine.

At least once a day, I go down to my basement and walk up all the stairs in my house- 2 at a time. I can easily build this into my nightly sweep of the house for picking up toys, etc. I might even throw in a squat or two with every toy I have to bend down and pick up.

If I am being more deliberate, I do the stair thing 3-4 times, with 10 push ups & 10 crunches in between each round. It isn't much, but it is a quick little work out to add some strength training.

What do you feel like this gets you? Have you developed visible muscle doing this? Are you getting a lot stronger?

Just curious. I'm a guy, but the women in my gym tend to lift much heavier weights than this (e.g. 75 -185 bench press, 135-225 squat and deadlift) and there are a couple who lift much more. They look GREAT (not bulky, but super athletic), so I'm curious what the attraction of such light weights is.
