I think Futsal is great as a tool with a good coach. It teaches ball skill and allows for a lot of touches in a game because of the small court. I would offer a word of caution against thinking the US Youth Futsal anything means anything, especially the National team. That is made of whomever is willing to pay the thousands of dollars it takes to participate. Futsal though is excellent. I'm told FCV's DA girls also do Futsal via Puma. US Futsal programs offer a lot better competition, if you are looking for a good challenge. |
Not according to FCV's twitter account..... |
I don't follow Twitter verse. The top "championship" bracket has the top teams. And if GFR was in the top (or even one bracket down), they are playing some high calibre teams. |

To answer the OP question...
Arlington are okay but many parents unhappy with the new coach. SYC has gotten much stronger with the recruitment of the LMVSC team. VSA is solid physical team and so is PWSI but both rely on their size and play direct, not as technical as some other teams. FCV has a decent team playing up in 07 but GFR has the better team in that geographical area between VYS, McLean, Chantilly and FCV. Herndon also have an okay team who have been doing better. The best team in the state of VA is the Strikers. I don't think an age group being strong as much to do with the reputation of the club as a whole. FCV has a solid DA program but their 08 and below are weaker than many smaller clubs around. Same can be said for Arlington who lost to Herndons team made up of kids from rec and lower level players from other clubs. The coach did a good job building that team from scratch. So I guess my point is, it depends on the talent in the age group, the coach and their vision and plan for the team and the desire of the players to get better. |
um no try again. It was the flight below the top or the one below that. It was 7 FLIGHTS down. If they win a rec tournament will you also ask why they were not mentioned among the best in Virginia? |
GFR has no 08 team please stop! No Metro will not be good its not a destination DA. They’ll be lucky to get anyone to join the DA |
| Must have hit a nerve |

How many times has your daughter won Jeff Cup? Regardless of the bracket all the teams in the tournament are competitive. I love how grown people put down little girls on the internet. Such a loser!

Not really. The lower third of the brackets are elite (non-DA, non-ECNL) teams like CCL teams and the bottom has classic teams. Any team that has a good tournament and the kids are happy and had a good time, that's wonderful! But let's not equate that with a team that is in the top bracket (or even top FOUR brackets for that manner). I'm offering important education to parents of really young players. I wish I had better understood all of this when mine were small. |
I saw an 08 team in the spring tournament, so you look like the confused one. And MU is an excellent destination for someone looking for a DEVELOPMENTAL academy and not the kobra Kai of youth soccer. The PP with the lengthy post had a pretty good overview. |
| GFR 08 is on Par with Vienna. any questions? |
| I would say GFR 08 is definitely better than FCV. A few years ago FCV was a good club. It is not clear what happened. All of these new DA and ECNL clubs have families too many more attractive options. No wonder the club is moving to Springfield. Perhaps it will be a new start for them there. They need it and have a terrible reputation. |
GFR is a good 9 v 9 team that bangs the ball up the middle. How that will translate to 11 v 11 when those kids have to cover more field remains to be seen. |
What do you mean by "banging it" ? Is that some big boot out of the back up the middle or are you saying they drive up through the midfield in a possession style? I usually find the problem when you get to 11 v 11 isn't a style problem as much as it is a personnel problem. Can they add enough players that strengthen/maintain the quality or will the core group get diluted by who they add? |
When DD has played them, it's been a bit of a midfield swarm. Not a whole lot of use of the back after the ball is pushed up, and a lot of attempted dribbling through players rather than passing to open up space (which will work even better on a bigger field). Sometimes they did build from the back, but often got a girl with a big foot to boot it as well. Mainly chaos in the middle, which rubs off on the opponent as well. So I wouldn't say possession specifically -- not that they weren't necessarily trying, just playing too bunched. |
