Being briefed by Malaysia officials they believe most likely location for MH370 is on land somewhere near Chinese/Kyrgyz border.

This is an area where the Uyghur people live - Uyghur militants did the knife attack at the train station a couple of weeks ago.

Do you really think that the Chinese military would not have noticed a 777 flown into and landed in western China? On the Krygiz side the land is very mountainous.

Do O2 masks deploy only if there is a sudden depressurization or is O2 levels just fall below a certain point? And how long can the tanks last on a big jet?

This is so scary. These Are pilots last words in some flights. Transcripts of black box recorders OMG: http://www.planecrashinfo.com/lastwords.htm

Unfortunately the black box only records the last 2 hours of a flight so we'll most likely never find out what happened even if the black box is found.

Is this true? This is the most depressing point made today. Partly because if they were all unconcious/dead and it was on autopilot for over 2 hours, we'll never know if the pilot was in on it or trying to protect everyone.

Yes, it's a 2 hour loop. We'll never know.

WhY do you people lie so much? WTF is wrong with you???

A flight data recorder is required to store a minimum of 25 hours of flight information. A cockpit voice recorder is required to record a minimum of 2 hours of audio information

You are wrong. This just came up on CNN last night. The expert they interviewed specifically stated that only the last 2 hours of cockpit conversations would be recorded. I have no idea how much info is contained in the flight data recorder but the voice recorder is only 2 hours.

I didn't read this, but simply going on your description, I cannot understand your morbid desire to read or hear people's last words as the face sudden death. It seems so disrespectful to the pilots that lost their lives and the families that have lost loved ones. I understand that these transcripts are used during an investigation, but posting things here for people's entertainment seems to be in very poor taste.

I don't know what triggers them to deploy but there is only enough oxygen in the passenger tanks to last 5-10 minutes per passenger. In the event of decompression, the idea is that the plane would rapidly descend to below 10,000 feet, where the air is breathable. Cockpit oxygen is designed to last much longer.

You think this is for people's entertainment? stfu! do I freaking look entertained to you? I am intrigued by this and yes I am reading these transcripts because I can not even begin to comprehend what goes on in these last moments while you are trying to control an airplane, but to go as far as calling it entertaining, that's a freaking huge leap!

Can they build a plane which they can easily disguise as a commercial air liner and fly it right into a major city?

I think this plane is going to mimic a passenger flight and either be rammed into a building or used to detonate a dirty bomb over a city.

That's it, that's why they need a standard intact plane, and don't need the passengers as hostages, don't care their nationality, can kill them all by over-riding the oxygen system (movie "Inside Man", Jodie Foster manipulates the oxygen system) before they get a chance to mobilize against the captors. Land somewhere that they can load a bomb onto the plane. Then deploy over a city. This hijacking is just the beginning of the terrorist plan.

ITA, I couldn't click on the link, despite my own [admittedly] morbid curiosity. It just seems wrong.

Sadly, I think this is correct as well. If someone wanted to commit suicide or take down the plane for terrorist reasons, they just would've pointed the nose down when they got control. What has happened was an intentional action to get that plane someplace intact. The reason why its not a hijacking with hostages and a demand for ransom is because the hostages weren't the goal, the plane is/was. And, we haven't heard from whomever is responsible because they aren't done yet. If this is true, I expect our Air Force to be on an extremely high level of aler. And, goodness help any plane that fails to respond to a request for communication as it approaches our domestic air space.

Target likely a coastal city in minimally secured air space. Or maybe they take over a control tower.

I keep getting more scared the more I read about this. Living in New York and having been here for 9/11 doesn't help.

They do not work correctly at 40,000+ feet. Only special pilot ones work. The plane is not designed to go that high.

I wouldn't overthink it. Do you really think that if a random aircraft is spotted headed towards NYC or requests permission to land in NYC, it gets that? I think they control the airspace pretty tightly over the east coast normally, and now even more so if they are on the lookout for this plane.
