I don't think it would prejudice anything for future years, but if you have other things with which to appeal, I would leave it out. What you need is something that indicates that the NNAT is more reflective of your kid's ability than the COGAT. The WISC does not do that. |
Is the 129 nnat good enough with a strong letter from a stem teacher that gave a glowing recommendation?
How bad is the 122 wisc? Like you really strongly wouldn't submit? 100% don't submit wisc? Should I tell the aart and try for local advanced? |
I don't know if the recommendation would be enough, but the 122 WISC is not helping your case at all. |
You need to write a letter explaining why the regular classroom cannot meet your child's needs. Glowing recommendations won't make your case as well as a simple listing of the reasons why the regular classroom is not appropriate for the child.

DP. I'm pretty sure a STEM teacher can't/ won't write a recommendation letter if they're employed by FCPS. If it's a teacher or coach from an outside STEM program, they can submit a letter of recommendation on your child's behalf. We just decided to appeal for our kid and the psychologist wrote a letter recommending full-time AAP placement based on the test results and our kid's learning style. I have no idea if this will work but I figure it can't hurt. |
My DD got 126 in NNAT and 119 in cogat. she is all 4s and few 3s in academic.
She was not in pool. decided to take WISC. didnt come out ok. score was 110. Verbal Comprehension 113 ==> 81 percentile = High average Visual spatial index 102 ==> 55 percentile = average Fluid Reasoning Index 112 ==> 79 percentile = High average Working Memory index 117 ==> 87 percentile = High average processing speed ==> 116 ==> 86 percentile = High average Please advise if GT appeal works. |
If you appeal, absolutely (100%) do not include that WISC score. Submit a letter why AAP is a better fit than Gen Ed, and submit work samples. |
Is it worth directly challenging a component of the GBRS or is that viewed negatively in the appeal? DS got a 2 in "exceptional ability to learn" (3s in the other categories) and I have several examples of strong ability to learn .... not to mention his report card is all 4s with him putting in the bare minimum of effort. I think the teachers ranked him low on that measure because he's easily distracted, especially when bored. |
I an in the same boat. The her teacher and the AAP teacher, said my DD was capable but not interested because she did not ask for work. The AAP teacher was very busy during the time for submitting work to get into the GT program. They did not help her at all. I am wish to write a little about this in my letter, but not sure if it will be looked on negatively in the appeal. Thank you all again. |

He got in from his test scores just being 3% higher and is thriving. Thank you all again. |
thanks...what kind of work sample i can submit? please advise. am very new to all this process
|
At least one of the work samples "must include at least one response to a critical/creative-thinking lesson." source: https://www.fcps.edu/registration/advanced-academics-identification-and-placement/elementary-school/current-fcps |

I'm submitting as work samples a book report, a story, a recipe she made herself and documenting a skill she taught herself. Is that enough or should I include something else. |
