Why do democrats favor OPT ???
why would the federal government, through an executive order no less, implement the F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT) Visa, which allows over 400,000 foreign students to remain in the U.S. and work in STEM jobs? Moreover, why would the federal government give financial incentives to hire these foreign students over American students with the degrees and skills? Silicon Valley wages for the majority of employees continue to stagnate. Somehow the numbers are not adding up for highly-skilled American workers. One factor increasingly recognized as being part of the problem is the OPT program. Each F-1 OPT worker represents a loss to U.S. taxpayers. Not only are American college graduates missing out on great jobs as a result of the OPT program, but neither the OPT worker nor their employer are required to pay FICA taxes. This represents a 15.3 percent tax break to OPT hires and their employers. In other words, American taxpayers are subsidizing foreigners to take away jobs from American taxpayers. The U.S. is estimated to lose roughly $2 billion per year in Medicare and Social Security contributions because of the OPT program. |
"Fewer than half of all STEM graduates find careers in their fields. Why should our government discourage employers from hiring our home-grown graduates?" Rep. Gosar's bill would immediately end the OPT program, and expressly prohibits any future administration from creating a similar program without the consent of Congress. Kaine does not support Warner does not support Connolly does not support Republicans created the bill but no democrats will join and help US workers |
That group is the problem. If they stepped aside and let Black Christians run the party for a while, Dems (and the country) would be better off. There were some black Christians posting on here recently, but I think the Upper Middle Class Karens chased them off. |
I voted for Clinton and Obama, and raised money for them too. And I’m a well-read dcurbanmom. Who lives in DC. And has a masters degree. I can assure you that I don’t get my opinions of Democrats, their policies, their performance, or their personalities from Donald Trump! Or from Fox News. I know you think all non-Kamala voters are stupid racist cult members, but actually, people are souring on today’s Democrats in millions of uniquely personal ways. |
Cory Booker just said that Democrats made a lot of terrible mistakes that led to Trump’s re-election. Can we dcurbanmoms now admit the same thing? |

Ah, you’re one of those Upper Middle Class Striver Dems we’ve been hearing so much about! |
He didn’t say it led to Trump’s reelection. He’s admitted mistakes, yes…which is WAY more than MAGA has ever done. |
I missed it Did he say he would mandate e-verify? Did he say he would repeal h1b? Did he say he would eliminate OPT? Did he acknowledge any change in direction with the overwhelming immigration hurting US workers????? |
Which mistakes did he admit? |
he said he will support mandating e-verify Without a doubt, passing sensible E-Verify legislation is the single most important step state legislators can take to curb the hiring of illegal aliens who wish to compete for jobs with American workers. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has re-introduced S. 1151, the Accountability Through Verification Act, to mandate use of the E-Verify system And Cory said he would join on. Finally progress. |
lol no. |
why should I temper what I believe in simply to vote to WIN the race?
Republicans are outright racists. How is this better than pushing for "woke" policies? |
Come on, now! Oh yeah! |
Because governing is more important than ideology. No- one cares about your beliefs |
