Woman charged with felony for having a stillbirth

Only the judge and DA should attempt to deliver babies because they--according to themselves--are experts.

The lack of empathy - in this case, for a woman who lost her fetus - is incomprehensible to me and precisely why America today SUCKS.

I can’t believe people are faulting her here or think this should be prosecuted as a felony. What is the problem with these people? It’s disturbing.

Because you and so many like you have never ever seen a fetus that has gestated beyond 20 weeks. It's not a glob of cells. It is a tiny little baby. It is something you cannot comprehend because you have not seen it or been through it. I delivered a 20 week fetus at home and the brought it to the hospital. I don't what else to say here. What she did is wrong. She shouldn't go to jail, but the facts of why the police were called and this is being pursued will come out. There is simply more to the story, and nobody here knows yet what it is. I imagine many will be asked to question what they thought they knew.

You are so narcissistic that you can’t fathom that 1. Many other people HAVE unfortunately seen a 20+ week old stillborn fetus and that 2. Many of them don’t look like a perfect “tiny little baby.” Some of them have severe problems like body stalk anomalies, where the abdominal organs are outside the body, and what’s left of that body might not even look human. You think someone who is suffering terribly should be legally required to fish those intestines and other organs out of a toilet full of waste, blood, and largely unidentifiable parts? It would only follow that she must remove everything solid from the toilet so that it can be identified and disposed of “properly.” Wouldn’t want a stray kidney flushed when we can force a woman to look for it in a bowl full of feces.

I can guarantee that I have seen more deliveries at 20-22 weeks than you have, and I have a better sense of the very wide range of size, appearance, and intactness.

Actually— and surprisingly— I get the judge’s actions in this case, because, as I read it, he’s pointing out that he’s NOT an expert in these matters. The activist prosecutor, though, is troublesome.n

The Grand Jury won’t be experts either, though.

Expect more of this from the forced birthers if the GOP is not utterly destroyed.

Like everything on this topic, it depends on how many weeks along you are. If it's pretty early, they will give you the option of a drug that induces labor, you go home and pass the fetus. If you are farther along, you have to deliver the baby in a hospital.

I've done both.

True, but I believe they have the opportunity to call in experts for consultation. Please correct me if I’m wrong about this though.
I also have no idea if they HAVE to call in experts.

They should deliver the baby so you don't deliver it yourself at home all alone.

It's called a late term abortion but looney people.

Well we don't know if the baby was growing past the time it was non-viable.

Yes, and I have seen earlier and later gestational age deliveries, and my point was that there is a range at each level. Even if we knew that the fetus stopped developing at, say 19 weeks and 4 days (the precision is ludicrous, but for example), you wouldn't know exactly what that means for appearance and function. There is a wide range, and though you can use estimators (like the Ballard Exam at 26+ weeks), there is a range for every characteristic.

I reject the perspective that "you and so many like you have never ever seen a fetus that has gestated beyond 20 weeks. It's not a glob of cells. It is a tiny little baby. It is something you cannot comprehend because you have not seen it or been through it. I delivered a 20 week fetus ..."

That PP suffered a tragic event, and my heart goes out to her. It also does not mean that she can extrapolate to say she knows what that would be like in a different context -- she knows her own experience, but there is a wide range around and beyond that, even at a similar gestational age. Not to mention all the other variables about viability and potential growth problems.

I find it amazing that people are willing to donate to the gofundme when we don’t have all the facts in the case. This could go 10,000 different ways.
