S/O Why do more females go to college than males nationally?

Anonymous
Based on another thread, the national ratio is 60% female and 40% male.

Why is this? What are male high school graduates doing? Do they eventually go to college? If so, wouldn't the ratio be 50 - 50?

Distribution of intelligence for boys is more spread out than girls so the boys at both ends of the curve don't make it to college or drop out either because it is too boring or too difficult.

I don't think the bolded is true. Maybe 55-45, at most. But yes, at co-ed schools not noted for engineering, there are more women admitted than men.

Not six women for every four men, though. It's actually pretty even in the overall population. In India and China, there are more men.

Most people don’t even go to college. For men, it’s jail, military, trade school, play video games. In a lot of thecountry, women still go to college to find a husband.

The most common jobs for women... teacher and nurse... require college.

The most common jobs for men do not.

Young women work harder and are more mature and organized on average.

This, though too lazy (hey, I’m a guy) to find a link that supports it. Just an unscientific observation from watching my five kids and their dozens and dozens of friends, and my wife’s experiences as a teacher for a couple of decades. Even the not-so-bright girls get good grades because they are organized, never miss out on the free points like do/didn’t do homework assignments, and have enough performance anxiety that they won’t just give up and accept the B or C. The guys have the homework balled up in the bottom of their bookbags that they completed but forgot to turn in.
