My three adult (28-31 yrs) nieces and nephews come over about once a month to hang out with my 18, 20 year old kids.
I do a special grocery shop but it's never enough. They stay for 12 hours which feels really long. They live an hour away. When the three of them come, we go through 48 soda cans, 8 bags of chips, ice cream, fruit trays, cookies. I end up doing two full meals since they are here so long. I do salads, order four large pizzas for them along with wings and garlic bread. Then I order in Chinese for dinner. They will eat everything I put in front of them and it's a full time job keeping the food coming, lol. I used to cook but it was way too much work. Last time I barbecued some burgers and they had THREE burgers in a sitting with buns and all the fixings plus sides. Honestly, the visits are taking too much out of me. Are they extreme eaters? I feel bad even posting it but it seems they go hog wild when they are here. |
| OP again. When I visited cousins without parents, I was lucky to get one soda and definitely no meals. |

What exactly would you prefer?
|

You may stop offering meals, and suggest they go out to eat.
Are you afraid of telling them? |
| Are they all obese? |
| Is it the work, the money, or both? |
Both but more the work |

So stop doing what you're doing. You can still visit without doing all that.
"Hey guys, I was thinking of taco night for when you come next week. I'm going to provide X, Y, and Z. Jane, can you pick up a bag of chips and some salsa; Dan, can you bring a 6-pack of Corona; Blair, can you bring brownies or some other type of dessert? We can't wait to see you!" I don't believe for one second that y'all go through 48 soda cans. That being said, if you only stock 12 soda cans, guess what? Only 12 would be consumed. If you only make 2 burgers a person, and tell them that there are two burgers a person, guess how many burgers they'll eat? Are you staying around for 12 hours? Don't do that. Say hello, hang out for a bit, then when they're in a groove with your kids, go run an errand or head upstairs to fold laundry or do whatever you want. Or hand your kids $20 each and send them out to have dinner outside of the house. Come on. Engineer things a bit. Are you this hapless and non-resourceful at work? |
2/3 One is about 400lbs. One is about 280lbs if I had to guess. |
If someone comes to my home I don't want to send them out to eat. I would feel rude. |
| I think it's great that the cousins get together. BUT that amount of food is crazy. That's 8+ sodas a each. Something seems wrong with this picture. A couple bags of chips, a 12-pack of soda, some fruit and a few pizzas should be enough. They can take themselves out to lunch or dinner. |
| I wouldn’t do anything special. Especially since every age person you’ve listed is an adult. If they are hungry, they order pizza. 48 sodas for 5 people? That’s ridiculous. |
| Put out pitchers of water with lemon slices in them. I don’t even buy 48 cans of soda for full-blown parties. |
I guarantee you they do go through all that soda. Every time I hear the cans open I cringe. I was always raised to be a good host and to make sure everyone is full. |
Suggest that they plan a meal and all cook together. My college age/young adult kids are better cooks than you think they'd be and really like to cook in large groups. They can shop themselves or give you a list, whichever you prefer. |
