Cruise Ship Lawsuit & Today Show

Did anyone watch the segment this morning with the parents of the toddler that died falling from the cruise ship? They confirmed they are suing Royal Caribbean. Zero accountability that grandpa shouldn’t have placed the child on the railing to begin with.

I hope Royal Caribbean takes them to the cleaners for all the publicity damage they've suffered over this and sues the grandpa for criminal negligence as well.

If she could have toddled over and fallen out (like what has happened in hotel rooms) I could understand. But grandpa placed her on that railing and there is zero chance he missed the breeze hitting him in the face. I hope that RC releases the video.

It makes no sense. The toddler could see out of the glass on the ground, since it was floor-ceiling windows. Grandpa effed up, fatally so.

I know the parents are grieving, but sooner or later they're going to have to address their grief and anger head on - misplacing it on the cruise ship is just going to delay their pain.

There is no way RC would ever sue the family of a deceased passenger. The resulting publicity would do FAR more damage to RC than whatever negative publicity they may suffer because of the parents' lawsuit and media tour - especially given what seems to have happened here.

I also hope RC countersues. Their lawyer is the marine equivalent of an ambulance chaser. Google him, he’s got quite the record with these type of cases. I was so sympathetic for the family until they hired a scumbag lawyer to try and deflect the blame before their sweet child was even buried.

They may have given the interview to pressure RC into settling because the public feels compassion towards the toddler. Unless there are facts we don’t know about, I don’t see how any jury could decide the claim against RC. So just nuisance value for a small settlement that will help them move on because they’ll officially have a culprit.

RC is not liable, but they will settle.

Then they would be even more disgusting and greedy then we thought.

The parents seem delusional with grief. It’s gotta be somebody else’s fault because it certainly wasn’t theirs! The whole bang on the glass thing just seems crazy to me. Who holds a kid up 11 stories to bang on some glass. Crazy folk out for revenge.

I wonder if the grandfather put her up on the railing and was letting her walk along it to "bang on the glass". He was sort of propping her on the back to keep her from falling backwards, then they got by the open window.

I watched that interview and I sobbed. I think there’s a lot motivating the lawsuit. Heartbreak, denial of the grandfather’s role in this, feelings of anger that are easier to place on a large corporation than a beloved family member, a feeling of hopelessness and need to hold someone accountable, etc.

Their lawyer is a life raft while they are drowning in grief. He is telling them what they want to hear.

I can’t possibly judge this family. RC will be fine based on the fact most people think it was grandpa’s fault anyway. I don’t really think the public at large is outraged at RC. The cruise line will be fine.

This family though is living a nightmare and will be for a long time. Let’s have some compassion even if we don’t agree with the lawsuit.

Can someone please post a picture the railing/glass area? I'm having a hard time envisioning what happened.

Then the family needs to grieve and stop the lawsuit nonsense. Grieve in private. Everyone feels for the loss of their daughter. It’s a horrifying way to die. I know everyone grieves differently, but this is a whole other level of f-d up
