FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BSC Girls Director of Coaching and ECNL U15 Head Coach Shannon Cirovski to Depart Club

The Bethesda Soccer Club (BSC) is sad to announce that our Girls Director of Coaching and ECNL U15 Head Coach Shannon Cirovski will be stepping down from her role as the Director of Coaching and head coach of the ECNL Force beginning in August. Cirovski is looking forward to spending more time with her family and finding new ways to contribute to the sport she loves.

For the past four and a half years, Shannon has worked tirelessly to make BSC's Girls Program one of the top programs in the country. During her time at Bethesda the Girls Program had over 100 players go on to play college soccer or attend a two or four year university. Her teams have made multiple appearances at the ECNL National Playoffs and win prestigious tournaments such as the Jefferson Cup.

"Bethesda will be forever thankful for Shannon's hard work setting our girls up with strong role models. Her passion and knowledge for the sport is unmatched and it will be difficult for us to find someone to fill her shoes. I look forward to seeing what she does next" said Lisa Frates, BSC's Executive Director.

Bethesda is actively pursuing a new ECNL coach who will lead the team into the future. In the interim, Coach Dave Greene will be taking over the coaching responsibilities for the group as well as serving as the Interim Coaching Director while the Club completes a nationwide search for a new candidate to fill the role.

Interesting first Meggan moves on, now Shannon. Sounds like a house cleaning.

Shannon is a rock star. She was the Hermann Player of the Year, won NCAA titles at UNC, played on a World Cup Champion team and Coached several DI Women's programs. She was not only a good coach but a great person. I don't know where you go from here.

I hope whoever comes in sheds the Bethesda (city) culture from the club. Too many people treat the club as a status symbol. The club does a good job training but McLean, FCV and Pipeline are more successful and deliver better players. That is less a reflection on the coaches than it is on the parents. Of all my years in youth soccer, Bethesda is the only place I know of where parents drop the name "Bethesda" and expect you to be amazed. They need to urge that mentality. The fact that the club brought in the MRM Rush his team is all the confirmation that you need that the teams are inferior. They are not getting the best players. I know kids that drive right past Bethesda to play for McLean or other programs.

Funny how it is always FCV on these boards chirping about their greatness but never a peep out of Bethesda parents one way or the other.

Former Bethesda parent. With the next DOC they need to work on the psychology of girls in sports and improve the environment.

Wow. This is a big loss for BSC.

While I’m not a BSC parent, I’ve talked and emailed her many times inquiring about their camps, clinics, etc. She was extremely friendly on the phone and very prompt with her email responses.

I don’t know if she decided to have some time of for family purposes but I hope she lands another job as a Director of Coaching in the DMV.

I noticed that MSI is looking for a Director of Coaching as well. I wonder if they were able to recruit her away from BSC.

Are you an imbecil? I am not an FCV parent but noted the top three teams in the area. Do you question the success of these three clubs. FCV just sent three of its DA teams to nationals while McLean sent four. Pipeline is building a very competitive DA program and has B teams that can compete at the highest levels.

Bethesda is a good club but only sent one team to the ECNL nationals and I don't know if any of Bethesda's B teams reached US Youth Soccer regionals.

That would be a disaster. It’s not like BSC girls side is a power house. The environment/cultural was/is pretty bad and did not sync with the mission statement of the club. The girls side is tiny and was shrinking, some age groups had trouble fielding two teams. Things had to change. Hopefully new blood will revive the program. It was a big help getting the new coaches in on the girls sides.

I would be surprised to see her at MSI but she is one person that could make MSI a stronger player in youth soccer. MoCo should have two strong clubs.

I completely agree. Would love to see Bethesda, Potomac & MSI all produce strong and competitive clubs for both boys and girls programs.

I’m saying I don’t see Bethesda on this board pounding their chest as you claim they do.

To be fair, they don't have any reason to pound. That is my point. What they do have is an arrogance that just being at Bethesda is enough to command respect. All but one of the ECNL teams finished in the bottom half of the respective ECNL conference.

Bethesda is having a rough year on both girls and boys side. A larger than usual portion of returning players have left to play elsewhere. Look at the long list of supplemental tryouts!

I admired Shannon's dedication to bringing in women coaches and supporting them, but I don't think most of the coaches she brought are very strong.

I'm all for some leadership shake-ups on both the boys and girls side, but we've had excellent boys coaches at the younger age groups. And whatever else, BSC always does well with college commitments.
