Honestly, if you look at the coaching roster, most of the coaches Shannon recruited did not stick. Back to the usual suspects of local HS coaches, or that guy from Rush. |

You can't criticize a woman w/o being a pig.
OP here, Shannon is a good coach with great credentials but she has to answer for the failure of the girls side. Only one team qualified for nations. The rest were in the bottom half of their respective division. That does not mean she can't coach. |
Please the last refuge of a Scoundrel is misogyny. Women coaches can be just as bad or worst vs males coaches. BSC had some bad female coaches working under her. She should have taken action a long time ago and maybe she would still have her job. |
Ummm, you are assuming an awful lot. I am pretty sure she quit because the club management has gone from bad to worse over the past year. |
Wow. You assume a lot - that she lost her job. LOL She doesn’t need to be working as a technical director of a club. And to deal with rude know it all parents - why would she? |
| She ruled as a player and as a coach. I remain a fan and am sorry to see here go. I just don't know you can hire who has anywhere close to her credentials. |
It’s definitely not easy to find a former WC champion player with experience in coaching to be your next DoC. |
| Bethesda squandered the opportunity it had with Shannon. They never provided enough support. New crew there is all about image over substance and has an appetite to spend a lot more money. |

What management? Isn't their a board that hires a director of each gender? I agree that they squandered a great opportunity but who is responsible for the poor performance of the girls side. Shannon has impeccable credentials as a player and coach so I find it hard to imagine that she is responsible for the decline on the girls side but the reality is that the best team at Bethesda, came together before Coach Shannon arrived. The other teams have struggled in ECNL play but did perform in showcases.
I think the issue is that the parents are out of control. The sense of entitlement ruins the culture of what should be a great club. I guess the understanding at Bethesda that as a parent your are co-coaching director. I am sure Coach Shannon grew tired of people questioning her decisions give that she was the top college soccer player when at UNC, a major player on a champion WC team, a successful YNT coach and a successful DI college soccer coach. Blame the parents over there as well. There is no way possible that the club can ever hire someone with similar abilities. Well done, Bethesda! |
Generally agree with this, but I will say that being a great player and a good coach doesn’t necessarily translate into being a good manager or talent evaluator. There is no question she’s had to deal with a lot of PITA, whiny parents. But she also brought in some very poor coaches and was loyal to them to a fault. |
She and Meggan both got let go. The program was having major problems on the girls side. People do not realize how much the u little subsidize the older teams. If you are having problems fill out 2 teams when you are budgeted for 4, it’s a problem. She was the management. |
You might have a point on the management side but part of being a successful DI and YNT coach is managing. I also believe some of the top age group coaches were pretty solid. Dave Green has a unique style but it is difficult to ignore his track record. Coach Trey is young but is building a strong reputation. Coach Nancy is also solid. I don't know all the coaches but have come across those referenced above in games where my DDs have played against Bethesda. |
Coach Trey is excellent, indeed he won the national coaching award for 2-year colleges a couple of years ago. "Unique Style" = yelling and shaming?? |
Are you on the Board? If U-Littles are an issue, why was the Director of the Girls YDP program not removed? How about the expensive new staff at HQ work on establishing the value proposition for paying $2k per year for an 8 year-old to train in an environment about "work" rather than fun? Bringing college coaches in for the lower age groups isn't necessarily a great fit. Self-motivation to do "hard work" only goes so far with most ES kids. |
Agree, but Dave Green was there long before Shannon got there, and Trey preceded her as well. Shannon did bring in the Rohrmans, and I agree that Nancy is a good coach. |
