Bethesda losing Girl's Director of Coaching Girls

I hope whoever comes in sheds the Bethesda (city) culture from the club. Too many people treat the club as a status symbol. The club does a good job training but McLean, FCV and Pipeline are more successful and deliver better players. That is less a reflection on the coaches than it is on the parents. Of all my years in youth soccer, Bethesda is the only place I know of where parents drop the name "Bethesda" and expect you to be amazed. They need to urge that mentality. The fact that the club brought in the MRM Rush his team is all the confirmation that you need that the teams are inferior. They are not getting the best players. I know kids that drive right past Bethesda to play for McLean or other programs.

I've never encountered the sort of name-dropping parents you mention in all my years at BSC. There are, however, more know-it-all parents than is perhaps ideal.

If you are a BSC parent yourself, it’s hard to hear it.

If you are one of them it might be hard to recognize. There are more know-it-all parents than ideal at every cub. I don't think the Bethesda parents are anywhere as obnoxious as parents at some clubs but my guess it their involvement probably caused the BCS Director to reconsider staying for five more years.

What is the ideal candidate for the new director? I can't imagine that there are too many people with a profile like the one leaving.

For some unknown reason, BSC parents are snobbish. They think their BSC kids are all the next Messi or Alex Morgan. My experience is with U10 & U11 parents.

If they are snobbish it is because of the economic status of many, not the players.

Sorry but Potomac has a much higher average household income than Bethesda. Even average home prices are much higher too.

But I want to note that most BSC player don’t even live in Bethesda. Even BSC is registered and their office is in Gaithersburg. LOL

Should not be too hard. Find someone who can change the environment and put the program back on track. It’s been off the tracks for a while now. This will piss off the current parents.

Shannon is top notch in all respects. Her departure is bad for the club and should be perceived by all the girls' parents as a sign of major management issues at BSC.

BSC parents won’t be able to handle this. For years, they wholeheartedly believed that BSC is the “Ivy League” of soccer and they have been bragging it to their friends, neighbors and family. Get the suicide hotline ready.

As opposed to all the talented kids who have left the girls program? Yes there will be changes. Better for the club not so good for current players.

Oh, I hope so! Perhaps she could recruit more women coaches for MSI.

LOL ...That did not seem to work out too good for BSC. Many players left because of the women coaches.

Yes because all women coaches are bad coaches and all parents know the true talent of their kids at U10 - far better than Shannon

Yes. I hope so too just as long as she doesn’t recruit female “screamer and joystick” coaches. Having more female coaches would not only help out MSI but youth girls’ soccer in the MoCo area.

The ones that bashed her are the male chauvinist pigs who think they can coach better than any female coach.
