Cheat? You must be trolling. |
They must be trolling or have an agenda. If they are focused on college recruiting for the sake of the August kids, I may listen to their point of view, but accusations of cheating are most likely an indication of an agenda that's faltering. |
So basically whatever is best for our top teams to keep winning. |
If you actually read the statements put out by US Soccer, USYS, US Club, Etc everyone said the same thing. The decision to change back from BY to SY is occurring so more players can play on teams with other kids that are the same grade in school. I believe "grade level cohort" was the exact term used. The theory behind the change was that if more players played on a team that is their grade in school it would translate into higher levels of participation. Once the change fron BY to SY occurs a weird quirk will happen where some Aug birthdays will become "trapped" in the opposite way that players were trapped in BY. But this is easily addressed by playing Aug birthdays on their correct grade in school team because you can always play up if needed. Seems clear to me that US Soccer, USYS, and US Club think Aug birthdays should play on their correct grade in school team. Not down on a team with players that are all a grade lower in school. |
| Socal parent adding some context. Last week we went through youngers tryouts. Every club asked for players to register on their website before attending tryouts and every club asked for players birthdate and grade in school. This is my 3rd kid playing club soccer. Its interesting starting all over and noticing the changes. It used to be that clubs would announce a tryout date and you'd show up than and provide all the details when you get there. Preregistering on a website makes things much more organized but you dont get the circus atmosphere of everyone trying to provide info 10 minutes before tryouts start that day. |
Colorado Rapids offers the reasons they went age groups instead of grade year. Fair, consistent and safety are offered. Feel free to ignore at the expense of your intelligence. Will players be organized strictly by their school grade? No. Players will be organized by "School-Year Age Groups" (August 1-July 31), not by their specific academic grade. Here is the difference: While the new system will naturally align most players with their classmates, "Grade Level" is an academic designation that varies from family to family (due to children starting school early or late, repeating a year, or varying state enrollment dates). "School-Year Age Groups" use a strict national birthdate range (August 1 to July 31). This ensures a nationwide consistent, fair, and objective standard for safety and competition, regardless of a player’s individual academic path. Why are teams organized by the August 1–July 31 date range rather than strictly by "Grade Level"? While the new age group system is often referred to as "School Year" because it aligns better with school grades than the calendar year, we will use the nationwide age groupings of August 1st to July 31st date range for safety and fairness. We cannot organize strictly by "Grade" because grade levels are variable, whereas birth dates are factual. Organizing strictly by grade can create significant risks: The Age Gap Risk: Because kids start school at different ages, are held back, or skip grades, a single grade level can include children whose ages span 2+ years. Physical Safety: We already see significant physical differences within a standard 12-month age gap. If we were to widen that window to 24+ months (as seen in strict grade-based grouping), the physical disparity becomes dangerous. A "held-back" 13-year-old competing against a young 11-year-old in the same grade poses a real safety concern. Developmental Fairness: When age gaps widen beyond 12 months, the disparity in talent and physical maturity widens considerably. Keeping the grouping within the August 1–July 31 window ensures players compete with and against peers of similar physiological, emotional, and social maturity. |
There's a specific college recruiting category just for August born kids that everyone is unaware of? |
Which Clubs? |
Can you think of a reason that the PP has pushed this hard by misinterpreting basic statements from leagues and clubs and tried to shame and bully their way into soccer going grade year for some kids but not all other than a personal agenda? I can't. This isn't some do gooder solving world hunger. It is just a garden variety show of selfishness to bulldoze and helicopter for their kid. |
Its the mentality of looking for ways to play down vs playing on a team thats a players grade in school. Think outside of soccer. Who are the parents looking for ways to play their kid down against younger players? If you've ever played a sport in America theres always one or two of these on any team. Also you've probably experienced these kind of players get all the opportunities at first then over time filter right back to the bench or they quit. In football I remember one guy whos parents held him back and he was on steroids for his "allergy". The guy looked like a monster to kids in 7th grade. But by the time he was a junior in hs his hair was falling out and he didnt get much taller which made him shorter than most on the tean. All his parents manipulation of the rules didnt make a difference because mentally even with the steroids he didnt have what it takes. This is how most play downers end up. Theres usually some kind of snowplow parent that lacks ethics pushing to get their kid whatever advantage possible in the background. |
Its all of the clubs both LA and San Diego. They do tryouts the same week so players can only attend one or two during the week. Clubs also take attendance to figure out if players are atrending more than one clubs tryout. But they've always done that. Tournaments will start up soon + spring leagues and SOCAL teams for fall need to be set by June 1st. |
Ok so you don't like biobanding. Many do. You don't have to like the rules but they are the rules. There are no unwritten rules to specifically help you snowplow for your daughter and there won't be. It's over. They set the rules to not allow playing down (except MLSN). You are reaching in looking for excuses to go from age based to grade based groups. They set a 12 month window to avoid your example ironically. "When age gaps widen beyond 12 months, the disparity in talent and physical maturity widens considerably. Keeping the grouping within the August 1–July 31 window ensures players compete with and against peers of similar physiological, emotional, and social maturity." |
Playing August birthdays on their grade in school team is 100% allowed by the rules. 11v11 = U18/U19 = 8/1/2008 + younger = Senior 11v11 = U18/U19 = 8/1/2008 + younger = Junior 11v11 = U17 = 8/1/2010 + younger = Sophmore 11v11 = U16 = 8/1/2011 + younger = Freshman 11v11 = U15 = 8/1/2012 + younger = 8th grade 11v11 = U14 = 8/1/2013 + younger = 7th grade 11v11 = U13 = 8/1/2014 + younger = 6th grade 9v9 = U12 = 8/1/2015 + younger = 5th grade 9v9 = U11 = 8/1/2016 + younger = 4th grade 7v7 = U10 = 8/1/2017 + younger = 3rd grade 7v7 = U9 = 8/1/2018 + younger = 2nd grade 4v4 = U8 = 8/1/2019 + younger = 1st grade 4v4 = U7 = 8/1/2020 + younger = kindergarten |
Should indicates obligation, advice, or expectation (what is right or necessary), while could indicates possibility, capability, or a polite suggestion (what is optional or possible) "When age gaps widen beyond 12 months, the disparity in talent and physical maturity widens considerably." |
Not in the rules same with rae. So Il'l choose to ignore your obituarily made up nonsense. |
