They would get noticed and the club would treat you very well. I have heard some club’s giving big discounts or a free ride. It’s harder to steal a player that is not paying.

There are stories explaining both. They were not stars when recruited for college ball. Rodman was older when he decided to go to college. I think Larry bird is probably the example you seek. He hated Bobby knight, left Indiana, went to Indiana State and took a bunch of unknowns to the title game. You don’t go to Indians state because you want to stand out.
