The live feed I watched had a stunning view of the military bands coming down the long road through the castle archway.

The lone bagpiper walking through the hall was beautiful.

All the coverage has underscored his important role in the monarchy.

Totally agree. No one does weddings or funerals like the Brits. Every now and then, it's nice for the world to watch something like this to be reminded of the importance of history.

I loved the Land Rover hearse he designed. It was sooo him. All that pomp and circumstance and his bronze army green truck amongst all the pageantry. He always joked about the pomp and circumstance and fuss.

Thank you for describing this. I wasn’t checking out the piper, but I thought that I wasn’t paying attention when I realized that the coffin had disappeared and I had missed seeing what happened. (BBC broadcast) I imagined that as feeling somewhat chilling to watch, then I realized that the crypt can be visited, and it might be quite comforting to have one’s relatives just downstairs.

I went back and looked. The coffin starting lowering when the guy in the impressive tunic was reading out all Philip's titles. Then we segued to piper man and bugle team and when we came back, the coffin space was empty.

I think Phillip would've wanted the people walking behind his coffin to wear military uniforms. Sad certain people ruined that.

Is it just me or was the CBS announcer (not sure who it was) a poor choice for the job? She talked over the royal/international correspondent and seemed very ignorant (she said very confidently that Prince Andrew did not serve in the military, when in fact he and Prince Harry are the only ones who saw active duty).

I never watch American networks for British Royal Family events. They are the worst -- no sense of history, lame/tabloid-like "royal experts" with little sense of history. I think CBS had Omid Scobie as their "expert" who thought Princess Margaret's ex-husband (who died 4 years ago) -- INSTEAD of her son -- was walking in the procession after Prince Philip's casket.

I was struck by Prince Charles too. It’s endearing to see the royals display emotion. Out of everyone, he seems to be taking the loss the hardest (from the little we’ve seen).

It's why I switched over the the BBC. None of the U.S. anchors would shut.up.
