To me, It shows how we are all socialized to be more sympathetic to protecting men’s feelings and dignity than women’s. They both behaved badly but she is being blamed for everything in the toxic relationship. He was twice her age when they met, consumed mind boggling amounts of alcohol and drugs for decades, and is not taking any responsibility for his part in the mess. He had other ways of redressing his sense of being wronged than dragging them both through a public trial.

I am arguing with my teenage daughter trying to get her to see how unfair it is to blame everything on Amber. DD and her friends think Amber is to blame for ruining his illustrious career while I believe he did that in his own. Amber’s career and reputation has been savaged as well. DD tells me that the internet is siding with Johnny.

The world wants a villain (preferably female), while shared culpability, pesky details and nuance just get get in the way of one sided story telling.

I disagree. We are only now hearing Depp’s side of things while Amber’s take has been out there for over 5 years. This is the first time people really got the opportunity to compare what went on in that relationship from both Amber and Jonny’s perspective.

They’re both nuts. No one heard Depp’s side up until now.

What are you talking about Twitter has been pushing Depp's side for months. I agree with the other PP that its revolting people are acting like he's an innocent. AT BEST he is a drunken drug addict who left the mother of his children to date a hot crazy chick in her 20s and engaged in a mutually abusive relationship with her. That is the BEST possible interpretation of his behavior.

Only the red pillers are supporting him.

Who knew there were so many female red pillers People support him because he's open about his lifestyle and addictions, he seems genuine. People don't support Amber because she presents herself as a morally superior victim, who was calculated enough to escalate arguments and put her camera and audio on.

Most women support Amber, only frustrated men support him. And woman red pillar is an oxymoron -we don't fantasize and plan regulation that would make rape legal on our property, which is a fundamental view of the red pillers. We're not desperate and frustrated if we don't have sex and we don't think we're entitled to sex just because we demand it.

I don’t think most women support Amber.

I support Amber and I believe her. I don’t think she’s perfect - far from it. And I don’t think she’s the kind of person I’d want a relationship with. But that can be true AND she can be a victim … and I believe that she was.

I'm a woman and I don't support Amber nor do I support Johnny. They were both verbally abusive to each other, did drugs together and separately, and were all around a bad combination. I don't think she is the victim she claims to be. It would have been better for both if they had just divorced quietly.

Agree.

I certainly don’t and aside from this anonymous board, every other social media thread I have read supports Johnny Depp and not Amber Heard.

I think you misunderstood. That’s what I was saying.

So what? The trial is about whether Amber Heard was legitimately abused and therefore had a right to write her op ed. This trial lays bare that she was abused by a drug addicted alcoholic. Yes, she sucks but that’s not the point.

Nothing I heard so far "lays bare" that she was abused.

Same here. They are two toxic people who were very toxic together. Both were abusive. Both are guilty. There's no winner in this scenario.

Yes you can, especially when you're talking about being in a cycle of domestic violence and not trying to win any legal argument, which is what she was doing in the op ed. Many abusers are also/were also abused. Being a victim of abuse makes you statistically more likely to abuse in fact. Isn't this your all's defense of him? That he abused in response to abuse and therefore he is the primary victim?

*Checks pants for flaccid penis*
*Checks bank account for higher pay*

Nope, still a woman.

+1 The constant claims that anyone who supports Johnny is an MRA incel are not only inaccurate, they also make Amber's side seem nuts. I'm the casual observer from yesterday, and honestly the reaction my admission that I believe him makes the other side's claims less credible.

Also, Ben King is the platonic ideal of a butler. I would love to have him manage my life.

I think Depp supporters are either MRAs, Incels, depp fangirls, or someone who has been unknowingly influenced by that group.

Very few people here are defending Amber, just objecting to the portrayal of Depp as a poor downtrodden victim.

I don't know much about Depp's career but from listening at the case, Amber is toxic and a nut case. What do her "friends" say about her personality?

Can't wait to hear her side of the story!

She was arrested in 2009 for abusing her wife:

Was Amber Heard accused of domestic violence before?

In 2009, the Port of Seattle Police arrested Amber Heard after her girlfriend, Tasya van Ree, got into an argument at an airport.

Heard was taken into custody and booked for a misdemeanor domestic violence after she allegedly struck Ree at the Seattle-Tacoma International airport.

Amber Heard's case was assigned to King County District Court in Seattle the next day after the incident.

Prosecutor declined to press charges against Heard.

Amber Heard's ex gf has spoken out in her defense. Elon Musk and James Franco are testifying for her at the trial. There was some incident with the GF at an airport where someone grabbed someone else's arm but the girlfriend has come out and strenuously said that the incident has been mischaracterized
