Keto and wine

Anonymous
Several friends and coworkers started keto and have reported huge losses. I have been doing keto for 2 weeks with my only "cheats" being overdoing the wine on the weekends, like two bottles over Friday and Saturday night...but that's kind of my thing....and I have GAINED 2 pounds. I have committed to no more than 1 glass of wine per night at the most and 3 or 4 no wine nights per week. Does anyone do keto and still have a few glasses of dry white wine per week and lose? I just don't get it...

No wine, no alcohol. you won't enter ketosis if you drink alcohol. Just cut out the alcohol and after you loose over 10 lbs have a vodka with sparling water or a small glass of red wine.

I have dry red wine or spiked seltzers on the weekend. I've lost over 45 pounds using Keto and IF.

If I exercise daily and eat strictly Keto I can knock myself out of ketosis with wine or some sort of treat and then use IF combined with strict Keto to get myself back into ketosis quickly.

I know for some people it takes longer so your results may vary.

Are you counting carbs?

If your calories ar still in check and you maintain a deficit you should still lose weight regardless of whether you are in ketosis.

When you drink while in ketosis you are risking your health. Of course not everyone has the same effects, but the lack of carbs in your body makes you get drunk much faster. Some have even been known to black out after one drink.

Please be careful.

I had to stop drinking. And I’m fine with it. Maybe the question you need to ask yourself is why you can’t stop temporarily in order to reach your goals. I’m not going to be sober forever, but I will be until I reach my goal weight. And even after, I realize now that drinking needs to be reserved for truly special occasions

Plus I feel better!

You do you.

Please realize that drinking is not problematic for everyone. It sounds like you were using food and alcohol for numbing purposes, and that is why you became overweight, it is not the same for everyone.

My tolerance has gone way down but so has my weight. Usually when you lose weight, your tolerance goes way down regardless of your diet. Keto keeps your blood sugar on an even level all day with no big highs or lows. Alcohol lowers your blood sugar and that is why some people run into alcohol tolerance problems.

I have learned to make sure that I have something on my stomach before I eat - very important. If I do that, I can enjoy me some wine. I just have to watch how much I consume. But that's true whether I'm on Keto or not.

^also I drink water in between glasses of wine. Also important.

You really need to stick to only one glass and have some carbs that day. The next day go to a strict veto or IF.

I do. I usually get carbs through pecans and veggies as opposed to french fries.

If it’s keeping you from your weight loss goals, it’s obvious that it’s problematic. Duh.

And I am doing me, honey, and losing weight in the sober process.

So you’re drinking a bottle of wine a night?

You have a bigger problem than gaining 2 lbs.

Exactly. But then gets snarky when someone asks why she can’t stop.

Hope you’re enjoying your hangover from last night.
