I am not a “dog person”

Anonymous
I don’t want any animal to be hurt or mistreated and I appreciate how much my family and friends love their dogs. But I don’t like dogs and hate seeing so many in my urban neighborhood. You can’t take a walk on a nice day without seeing dogs squatting and pooping.

My issue is having to pretend to like my friends’ dogs. They expect me to pet them and I don’t want to touch them.

Now my new boss brings her ugly old little dog to work and so wants me to like him - pet him, watch him do “cute” things, talk about him...

Ugh!

I'm with you, OP, though I do like dogs. I just don't want one and I don't want to dog sit for anyone. It's funny, people are allowed to say they like children but don't want to have any of their own, but if you say that about a DOG, there's outrage.

I'm always embarrassed for owners when I see them standing next to their dogs while the dog takes a poop along a busy road. And then the owner has to pick up the poop in a bag - how incredibly mortifying. I know they don't look at it like that, but I do. Gross.

I also hate it when dog owners out in public loudly converse with their dogs, expecting everyone within earshot to comment on how cute they are. I just ignore. To be fair, there are some parents who do that with their kids too - I ignore them as well.

That’s all SO gross!!!
But this should go in the pets forum, no?

Picking up my dog’s poop doesn’t bother me...it would be more embarrassing if someone caught me leaving it.

I talk to my dog on our walks. I am sure someone has overheard. I don’t care. I love her and love having one sided conversations with her.

I have friends who aren’t dog lovers and it is nbd. I share my pics with the ones who are just as I am sure parents talk to their parents friends more about their kids than they do with their non-parent friends.

LOL. Look just be honest

I’m a dog person BUT I am crazy about chiuahahas-they are perfect!

I am less into big dogs and when I friend asked if I thought her dog was cute I said he is,
I think dogs are cute but little dogs have my heart. (She has a giant dog). She gets it. No hard feelings.
Big dogs aren’t my thing.

Dogs are fine but dog people are the worst.

Cat people are even worse. As are people who think their precious snowflakes (CHILDREN) can behave anywhere they want anytime they want.

There are definitely a$$hole dog owners who let them roam unleashed and then post about how their dog is "lost." No, $hithead - you are a terrible dog owner and should never have a pet again.

EVERYONE needs to be more responsible.

I am not a dog person either. I would never do it but when I see a dog squatting, with legs shaking and poop falling out of his butt, I want to kick him.

I try to pretend to be pleased by friends dogs but I actually hate them.

Just tell them that you developed an allergy to the dog fur mites and when you touch a dog, later on you get those bubonic plague like bubons and you have to go to the ER. That will stop the push. Alternatively do keep sustain eye contact with a dog without blinking, they will feel threatened by you because this is a primal alpha dog dominating behavior. They will not like you at all.

Everyone has their preferences, that's fine! I'm the total opposite to you. I am a medium-big dog person and find little breeds, especially chihuahuas, to be super neurotic, yappy, bite-y and rat-like. I'd take a Golden laying calmly on the floor while I have a conversation over a Yorkie bouncing off the walls and all over me any day. And that's fine, we all get to choose!

A person who never had bonded with a cat or a dog does not understand or likes dogs or cats. They are like little kids inside a furry body.
You don't need to like them just as many people do not like other people kids. People tend to like their own kids and the kids they know and like but not just a kid, any kid. The same with cats and dogs. If you knew t hem personally and bonded with them then you probably would like or not..

Tell your boss you're allergic.

I feel the same way. I don't want your dog jumping on me, licking me or touching me and I pull back for a reason. Same think with other people's kids. I don't think your 2 year old is cute for hugging everyone nor would I ever let mine.

I don’t want to see your kid or pet* pics and videos. I have my own kids who are precious and cute AF. I really don’t like animals beyond the ones on the menu, although my kids have cats, so I’m completely over cute pet pics and videos. I used to shop at a cute little boutique but the owner always has her dog there and he really annoys me. I don’t go in there anymore. I don’t know if I could handle a dog at work without losing my mind.

*Hedgehogs are the only exception. They’re adorable in every way and I could watch hedgehog videos for what feels like hours.
