Who knows? The only thing released by DOD is a fake picture with some guy holding an American flag. The interesting thing is the back seat guy was a Colonel or captain in navy(o-6 senior field-grade officer). Most back seaters are really young and low rank like Lt(0-1or2) or Captain(0-3).
Maybe the US military really could not let a senior commander with operational knowledge fall in to the hands of the Iranians?

There is a rumors that it was an o-6 from the IDF. Really embarrassing to shoot down an American F-15 and find a senior Israel in command of the mission and in command of Americans. Just a rumor but it seems to be gaining traction. Yipes.

Something is not right but given the people in command it could just be incompetence.
