JOHNS & LEWIS TO LEAD CAPITAL LACROSSE
* TEAM BRINGS UNPARALLELED NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE *

WASHINGTON, DC – This morning the Board of Directors of the Capital Lacrosse Club (CLC) was pleased to announce the appointment of Gussie Johns as Executive Director and Bill Lewis as Deputy Executive Director, replacing outgoing CLC Executive Director Eva Shea.

“We are thrilled to have such a dynamic team to lead our girls here at Capital,” explained CLC Board Chair Tom Conaghan. “Our process looked at candidates from across the nation, several with college and international expertise, but at the end of the day, Gussie and Bill were just tailor-made to write the next chapter for Capital.”

Johns, a 2-year team captain and 4-year starter at the University of Southern California (USC), is a member of the US Lacrosse Women’s Senior Team (Team USA) as well as member of the WPLL Philadelphia Fire and a volunteer assistant lacrosse coach for Georgetown University. Graduating magna cum laude from the USC Marshall School of Business, Johns has spent a great deal of time honing her business skills over the years – first as a coach to middle school Stars and Capital players while in high school, but then founding her own company G3J, working at Scout and working with USC’s Blackstone Launchpad. She is an alumnus of St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes High School, as well as alum of both the Capital Lacrosse Club and Stars Lacrosse Club.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to help give back to the club and community that I have been a part of for so long,” said Coach Johns. “Capital is an incredible organization and I can’t wait to work with all of the amazing girls and individuals involved.”

Originally from Long Island, New York, Lewis, the head coach of the current CLC 2021 Blue Team, has been a vital part of CLC for the past four years. An active duty member of the U.S. Coast Guard for the past 19 years, Lewis has been involved in youth lacrosse at all levels for the bulk of his professional career, holding a Class I and II coaching certification from US Lacrosse. He is also the coach of the W.T. Woodson Girls Lacrosse Program, which is not only the defending Virginia State 6A champion but also has an outstanding record of 49-9-1. Lewis has also worked with Stars Lacrosse Club, the Under Armour All-America Tournament and Regional Selection Chair, and the U.S. Lacrosse National School Girls Tournament.

Founded in the summer of 2005, the Capital Girls Lacrosse Club has evolved to become one of the premier high school girls lacrosse clubs in the country. The club currently consists of six teams with two teams representing each high school year including freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Some Capital maniac posted that at 2 am? LOL.

USC is a great lacrosse school, said no one ever, and I wonder if Johns benefitted from her college coach also being one of the National coaches.

Johns wasn’t even an All American. Overrated

With nothing showing at the homepage or twitter, Capital chose DCUM to announce this news??

Lewis was ejected from a high school game a few weeks ago for screaming at the officials. Not ideal role model behavior.

Just amazing - my daughter doesn't play for Capital or Stars - but one of their competitors in Maryland who they stunned down at President's Cup. Capital 2021 Blue, coached by Lewis, hasn't lost since last June and then by only one point to Yellow Jackets Rose. Lewis also coached the DC Command Team last summer, beating our undefeated Baltimore team in the Under Armor Tourney, getting DC into the championship match for the first time EVER losing to NJ in double overtime. And he has either won or finished second in Virginia for the past three years of his 4 or 5 his school. He's an excellent coach, and I'm sure none of us have ever yelled at any refs before at all, right? Tempers can and do flare, but you have to look at a body of work. Without hesitation, I wish we had him for our club, and more importantly for my DD at her high school. Can see why everyone on this thread feels threatened by him, as his coaching can only benefit their other teams, and not just his 21s.

Interesting choice for the initial release. The Capital folks have clearly been paying attention to posts on DCUM. Its a noteworthy step in the right direction. Lets hope they finish the job of cleaning house so they can start the 2019-2020 season with a fully refurbished reputation.

Are you for real?? It’s the beginning of the end if Capital is making decisions based on what they are reading on this board.

Only you said "making decisions based on." Since what has been written about the club on this board is a echo of what one hears irl, its not stupid for them to pay attention.

Do you know the track record of every coach in the DMV? Pretty creepy that you know this much about a coach that's not a part of your club.

If Capital thinks that clown Bill Lewis is going to keep them relevant they are sorely mistaken. He's not a great coach, and even a worse administrator. Time will tell, but I think Capital is on a steep downhill ride.

+1

And Stars (soon to be renamed St. James) is their feeder.
