JOHNS & LEWIS TO LEAD CAPITAL LACROSSE
* TEAM BRINGS UNPARALLELED NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE *
WASHINGTON, DC – This morning the Board of Directors of the Capital Lacrosse Club (CLC) was pleased to announce the appointment of Gussie Johns as Executive Director and Bill Lewis as Deputy Executive Director, replacing outgoing CLC Executive Director Eva Shea.
“We are thrilled to have such a dynamic team to lead our girls here at Capital,” explained CLC Board Chair Tom Conaghan. “Our process looked at candidates from across the nation, several with college and international expertise, but at the end of the day, Gussie and Bill were just tailor-made to write the next chapter for Capital.”
Johns, a 2-year team captain and 4-year starter at the University of Southern California (USC), is a member of the US Lacrosse Women’s Senior Team (Team USA) as well as member of the WPLL Philadelphia Fire and a volunteer assistant lacrosse coach for Georgetown University. Graduating magna cum laude from the USC Marshall School of Business, Johns has spent a great deal of time honing her business skills over the years – first as a coach to middle school Stars and Capital players while in high school, but then founding her own company G3J, working at Scout and working with USC’s Blackstone Launchpad. She is an alumnus of St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes High School, as well as alum of both the Capital Lacrosse Club and Stars Lacrosse Club.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to help give back to the club and community that I have been a part of for so long,” said Coach Johns. “Capital is an incredible organization and I can’t wait to work with all of the amazing girls and individuals involved.”
Originally from Long Island, New York, Lewis, the head coach of the current CLC 2021 Blue Team, has been a vital part of CLC for the past four years. An active duty member of the U.S. Coast Guard for the past 19 years, Lewis has been involved in youth lacrosse at all levels for the bulk of his professional career, holding a Class I and II coaching certification from US Lacrosse. He is also the coach of the W.T. Woodson Girls Lacrosse Program, which is not only the defending Virginia State 6A champion but also has an outstanding record of 49-9-1. Lewis has also worked with Stars Lacrosse Club, the Under Armour All-America Tournament and Regional Selection Chair, and the U.S. Lacrosse National School Girls Tournament.
Founded in the summer of 2005, the Capital Girls Lacrosse Club has evolved to become one of the premier high school girls lacrosse clubs in the country. The club currently consists of six teams with two teams representing each high school year including freshmen, sophomores and juniors.
