MASTER Cancel Travel b/c of COVID-19 Questions Thread

Anonymous
Anyone have a recommendation for international trip insurance that will actually allow you to voluntarily cancel on account of COVID-19?

We’re American but live overseas & I’m trying to send my kid to summer camp, but they are expensive (~£15k). So far, none of the camps say they are canceling; and if we elect to cancel, there’s no refund. None of them are screening/quarantining kids coming from ‘hot’ zones, and they commonly get kids from Asia & Italy.

Spending $20k for my kid to get sick or worse seems stupid, so I’m hoping there’s some kind of insurance out there that will let me cancel if there isn’t better prevention in place by summer.

Do not do this. With or without insurance.

Not travel, but what about even just locally attending concerts or other large venue type events?

It will be up to the individual hosts. I can’t see VRBO stepping in. But who knows?

I just emailed our VRBO host in Paris to cancel for next week. Fingers crossed on getting at least some of our money back.

Before you fly anywhere make sure you'd be happy staying there at least 2 weeks. Dunno who pays for the hotel. https://www.fox10tv.com/news/coronavirus/church-group-from-gulf-coast-quarantined-in-hotel-near-bethlehem/article_4efcec20-5fbb-11ea-affa-a35bc1a2243c.html

Will try reddit

Am confused why they were locked down? Am trying to find conversation specific to Italy...

I visit this travel forum frequently. I started a few threads and they have been locked. Strange how when I asked a few months ago about various countries or resorts, that was fine but now only one master coronavirus thread is allowed. Seems strange to put all of Asia, Europe and domestic trip questions into one thread.

People were starting 20 new threads a day on Coronavirus travel. It was obnoxious. The master thread is way better.

Agreed. People were posting 'Hawaii in two weeks but 'CORONA'' or 'France in 2 days, do you think I should go'? All of this was related to the COVID-19 outbreak.

I far prefer this single concentrated thread where updates are live not just on personal COVID-related travels but also the spread of the disease in certain impacted tourist spots like Italy, France, NYC, and the Caribbean.

Sorry you didn't get to post your inane 'Hey I booked a Disney cruise like an idiot two weeks ago and now I can't get my money back' thread though Sue.

Ireland in early April?

This is big. CDC and US State Department just issued statements that all US Citizens should defer all cruise travel at this time.
