They are comparable because weight loss through diet/exercise is something that you actually have to work for. Test prep is literally available to all students - FREE - through Kahn Academy. Some students take advantage of it, some don't.

Cheating is not the same thing as test prep.

If Kahn Academy test prep is equivalent, why are people paying so much for private test prep and tutors?

Why is mail fraud illegal? What crosses the line?

And they all take the ACT. They get almost double the time and it is an easy test. The whole point of that test is that you need to be quick and efficient.

If you are giving extra time, it must be on the harder test.

My daughter goes to a top 5 private. She is a senior and estimates that 1/3 of the kids are on “accommodations.” Extra hour for every exam. Extra time for tests. No quick quizzes. HW is given one extra day. It is a complete disgrace. Ruins it for the kids that truly need it.

When kids are pulling 34-36 - pulease.

My kid got a 35 with extra time. He has had the accommodation of time and a half since 2nd grade. The last time he was tested by the psychologist was in middle school (7th or 8th grade) and he had his ACT accommodations in 11th grade was based on that testing and diagnosis (ADHD and slow processing). He was tested again in 12th grade and it turns out he still has ADHD, but his processing speed has improved significantly from 8th grade. I guess it must have been that way when he took his ACT. That is great news and we are thrilled about his improvement. And for all the hardship he had to endure those years, he got the bonus a great score. And based on his new testing, he would not qualify for the extra time, which he obviously no longer needs.

No offense but I think extra time is BS. These tests are IQ proxies and speed iof thought is a valid metric. If your kid has processing deficiencies then so what, he should suffer the consequence. The world isn’t fair and accommodations can’t be made for every deficiency.

It gives blacks a larger pool of 'leadership class' and accelerates more of them into the top 5% while also giving incentives to umc whites to vote to raise taxes to fund public secondary and tertiary education more since now they are more likeyl to go there.

Not the way affirmative action is being done today where professional black families are getting the benefit. I say economic affirmative action is what is needed -poverty knows no race - help every kid that needs it

Yes, affirmative action is terrible unless whites can benefit. A principled stance.

Professional black families? You mean the ones that are working their way up the past few generations of poor racial inequality from the previous generations that came from slavery. How dare they? Why should they have any benefits? Geez. Only whites from enherited riches of past generations should get benefits. Working professionals of color? They are lucky they have a job, right PP. Those poor white kids with meth parents deserve it more because they are white and poor. I mean, do you reread what you type?

Talk about being in a state of cognitive dissonance.

DP: are you on meth?

No, I am a while woman that is not a racist. I am a white woman who is going to do everything in my lifetime to make any minority try and feel welcomed and equal in my presence and call out people that don’t do the same. I am a white woman who knows I have privilege in this world JUST because I was born white. Is it my fault I am white? No. Are minorities upset that I am white? No. Is it my duty to understand that being white comes with privilege that others do not have yet, even in 2019? Yes. Are minorities upset that white people don’t understand their own privilege? Yes. Are minorities upset that they feel left alone to battle for their rights and never understood by most whites who claim they are not racist? Yes.

It is not enough to just not be racist anymore. It is 2019 people. We need to do more. Just like people of wealth are supposed to help the poor, but really don’t want to. “I enherited or earned that money!” So They usually pay more wealthy lawyers and accountants to rig it so they don’t pay much taxes. Most white people dont want to fight for equality and justice, because they already have it and try to rationalize that black people have it now too. They don’t and it can’t just be them fighting for themselves. They need allies. People that are cognitively aware. Are white people nervous when their son is walking on a street or driving a car? Probably not. But every single black mother is. “Professional or not” Could you imagine that fear? I honestly can not. But I try. I try to understand. That is all most black people are asking. I mean like that is it. It isn’t much, but yet most white people can not do it. It is really sad once you “wake up.”

And for you entitled whites here screaming about “affirmative action is not fair” are just ignorant. So ignorant. I am not racist but.... NO, you ARE. You are somehow turning it around that it is not fair for you. YOU. Instead of thinking this is the least we can do and even (gasp) How can I do more?

So sorry, not on meth. Just trying to be a nice educated person who wants to use her privilege as a positive to help others. And if it means going on a rant here instead of watching This Is Us - and going all off topic, so be it. It just really bothers me that there are people out there that have somehow turned this entitled, white, rich ILLEGAL issue into a minority LEGAL issue. Only in America, sadly.

Excellent post, but you already know it will fall on deaf ears. Whites are financially, emotionally and culturally invested in white supremacy. The #1 lie of white supremacy is that whites are naturally meritorious.

So basically he cheated, but you are okay with it and feel proud because he worked hard in earlier years and DESERVED it? Got it.

Yikes, you are a dumbo. These tests are NOT IQ proxies and ETS made that clear decades ago. You’re unqualified for this discussion.

And can we get rid of ramps. If you are in a wheel chair tough luck for you. Life isn't fair.

Go home and watch soap operas and live off the dole.

You don't deserve an education or job, sorry you lost the physical capability lottery.

I feel really bad for the kids involved. And for those kids, I am sorry that your parents made such poor (and criminal) decisions.

Don't even have any. I'm angry on behalf of myself - that I took upteen test prep courses, read SAT books morning and night, did 5 AP Courses, was a National Merit Finalist, saved money to study abroad and volunteer - and got into my dream school.

But this LOSER, who didn't even want to attend college, arrived in with barely a lift of her finger thanks to mommy. A mom who would probably smile in my face and said her daughter studied so hard and they were super proud of her accomplishments (as Lori Loughlin did on the Today Show just last year) while knowing full well she was lying through her teeth. It pisses me off because I feel betrayed and I don't even know this witch.

Be angry the mom, sure. But spare the kid. Even though she is entitled, just imagine what a mind-f*** it must be to figure out your parents didn’t have enough confidence in you that they would resort to this type of behavior. I remember my dad telling me once that they weren’t wealthy enough to mess me up - I guess he was right.

Oh, please! Of course, the parents didn't have "enough confidence" because the kid is as dumb as a rock. And proud of it.
And you're no longer a kid at 19.

Some kids knew. One was on a conference call about it. Loughlin's youngest was asked by HS guidance counselor about crew. Counselor suggested s/he didn't think that the crew involvement was true. I think the kid knew.

So sad that Macy was in on it too w Huffman (& I liked her too. Until now). Dr. Morgenstern, no!!!! Physician, heal thyself.

He did not cheat. Where do you get that? This was above board and legit. The kid got a lucky break...good for him!

Awesome. Quote of the Year!

Actually it was USD - Univ of San Diego, the private Catholic college - which is even easier to get into than UCSD

AKA the "University of Spoiled Daughters"

Would be funny if the parents thought they were gaining entrance into usc and it was a typo. Or maybe they ere just that dumb to not realize no bribe was necessary.

Brands aren't going to want to touch her either. She's hot but not hot enough for top brands to keep her as a partner.

She's going to be some washed up ran through youtube skank now - probably will start running around with the ricegum crowd.

She turned off comments on her first four instagram posts but people just moved on to the other ones. She's going to have to delete because she's basically the face of this scandal.

And she can't talk about it on Youtube because her mother's trial hasn't even begun. If she says one wrong thing it could be used against Lori in court. Though she might be dumb enough to do it.
