what’s the point of this? They need 5 more Dems to sign on and where are they going to find those? I agree with another poster-they can change the rules if they really want to pass this CR but Trump desperately wants this shutdown so they will bend the knee to dear leader instead.

Same. My office leadership has been very confident this whole time that we would be coming in as we always have, but things are sounding more dark this evening. We are now being asked instead to follow whatever the email from HR (that hasn't yet been sent) directs us to do.

I wouldn't be very surprised if they could find 5 Dems overnight.

I would be disappointed in them, though.

Can anybody outline for me the upcoming votes? Like, if they don't open tomorrow, then when is the next chance to open? I need to know when to cancel my dog walker.

+1. A mass firing is fine with me. I’ve got enough saved to last and am willing to move anywhere for any kind of job. I know I didn’t lose my job because of my performance. I lost it because Voight is an ass.

+3 A RIF for me would mean a Discontinued Service Retirement; I have 27 years in. I did the math, and I would be fine. It might be time for a change of scenery, so I'd be open to selling my house and using the equity and savings to buy something for cash in a more affordable area.

We purposely did not go on vacation this year (all of 2026) and stopped dining out as we are dual feds and don't know what's coming down the pike. Saved 6 months of living expenses in a bank account and another 6 months in a CD that will mature next spring.
